Title: Michelin Super Sport vs Pilot Sport 4

Hey,

I'm getting some new tyres for the summer. Does anyone have any experience with the new Michelin Pilot sport 4? I can't really find any comparisons with the PSS because they are still fairly new. Is the Super Sport stil better and worth the extra money?

I've had the Pilot Sport 4's fitting to the front three weeks ago. I previously had the pilot sport 3's. I've no experience of the Super Sports I'm afraid.
All I can say is I love the 4's. It's been very wet over the last few weeks and they feel great in the wet. They feel alot better than the 3's. They breed confidence. Recommend.

PSS are being discontinued for general use I think soon enough, well thats what my friends who work at a porsche dealer told me, which is why they're starting to be hard to come by, they will continue to provide for oems that were designed for those tyres, but I think the PS4 is designed to be it's replacement, not to offer all out grip, but close to, and cheaper whilst providing very good all round ability and wear which is a big factor which made my mate take them off his S3, he would get 10k at a push, where as my PS3's on the gti have been on for 5k and not had any sort of wear. (different power etc but still)

Personally for a GTI I would get the PS4, newer tyre, good wear life, good all round tyre, kind of perfect for a GTI which is an all round car  :rolleyes:

They are the replacements, Super Sports being phased out except where they are OEM fitments for manufacturers

Slightly off topic but...

I've just bought new tyres and had Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2 sport recommended. Just fitted today so yet to see how they run but first drive was a-OK and good value tyre.

heard good things about the hankook, but if you're buying online I still find the Goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 3's the cheaper of the lot, I just bought some for my scirocco will report back on how they are!
