Well after nearly 4 weeks and 400 miles of ownership, the car is beginning to loosen up and since I got rid of the Soundaktor it's also sounding very nice.
I love the interior and although overall quality isn't quite up to Audi standards, it is far better to look at in my opinion.
I love all the tech, especially the rear camera and parking sensors and my wife is very envious of the heated seats
Performance wise it's incredible with superb acceleration and the grip from the dreaded Bridgestones isn't as bad as I expected although I don't drive like a tit so probably haven't stressed them as such.
I've probably cleaned it more than I've driven it to be honest but that's part of the fun of owning such a great looking car
I'm sure other owners past and present have enjoyed it as much as I am.

Nice write up. Agree with your thoughts re: bridgestones. As a 95% non tit driver, they are fine. When pushing they are a bit poor but I feel my talent would fail before they did.
Not owned an Audi so can't comment but I do love the fit, finish and look of the GTI. I turned the soudaktor thing down in the menu pretty much from day one. Have't seen the need to put it back on yet. Had the window down today and gave it full beans and it sound just fine without the electrickery.
Good choice of colour by the way
-
Glad you are enjoying it! My old Audi was leagues ahead in terms of build quality and the old 1993 100 Avant I had was even better. And for such a big old car it was very economical but, the GTI is a lot of fun and as you say, pretty quick so I can forgive the odd loose bit and rattle. The interior is really nice with the tartan and the dash layout is much better than the A3 (imo).
Hope it continues to impress you and you have a lot of fun with it

They really are a special car, such a nice place to be at night, everything is so crisp and clear. Only thing I haven't really gelled with is the Car Net which seems to require more inputs on the screen rather than the wheel mounted controls which I prefer for music and phone. I've only done 6-700 miles so maybe too early to be judging! My Santiago's came with Pirelli P Zero's which seem fine.
-
Yes I probably should have ordered the Santiago's but being a tight arse, I was put of by the added cost of 19'' tyres.
I was also concerned about ride quality and didn't want to spend even more on adaptive suspension. Like I said, a tight arse
-
I'm the same, for £1500 I will change gear myself thank you! The reason I went for the Santiago's was that my wife bought a VW Up a couple of years back and they had a Carbon Grey with Santiago's in the showroom and it looked stunning so had to go for it!
-
Good to see the review Kali-mon!
The GTI interior at night is just great, and the Carbon grey paintwork works so well with the red accents on the outside. The mk7 GTI is such an under appreciated car which is a shame. I loved mine.
-
Definitely worth considering the red led upgrade and the red edged floor mats, very happy with mine and gives the interior a warmer feel over the standard items.

Wow i just love this car too bits.
Fantastic looking car. Superb interior and at night it's awesome. Nice leds etc.
Dont have any problems with the Bridgestones. So far.
400 miles on our's now so when i was out on my own earlier gave it a right good rip from second gear up to a ton and maybe a little more! When you get to 5000rpm it comes alive and sounds awesome then it's red line change gear then red line change gear. It's all so fast and efficient and awesome. I like the word awesome.
Took my 71 yr old dad out in it and drove normally for a few miles with him asking is it as quick as your 520d M Sport? I said i think so as i entered the dual carriageway gave it the beans in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and he nearly shat himself clutching door handles and anything he could! He wants one now!
It's a very impressive car with loads of great kit and looks awesome.
Washed it again today then clayed it and washed it again. Maybe some wax tomorrow.
Cant stop looking at it and tinkering with it. Red GTI badges on the front & back now.

"Brothel lighting" - if I ever mention that my car has good 'pick up', it is not that aspect that I'll be referring to!

At least it's not left hand drive to aid with driving close to kerbs and discussing "directions" with young ladies when you're "lost, officer"

Not sure if I'm a fan of the red LEDs to be honest. They probably look better in the flesh.
And now we're back to hookers again!
Watched this earlier, quite a good explanation of how the LSD works on the PP GTI if you can ignore the sales bullsh!t.

I thought left hooker meant something different to that. :nerd:

400 miles in 4 weeks  you wanna get out and drive it more dude lol

A very nice little video. Many thanks. Glad I paid extra for the PP now. I've never really noticed it doing its stuff but i assume that's a good thing.

You're right but it's not going to clean it self.
Joking apart it is very frustrating having to drive around all day in my Transit when the GTI is sitting at home. I could always get a ladder rack fitted I suppose but then where do I put the 650 litre water tank😀
I could get a trailer.........

Are you a window cleaner? I know two window cleaners, one has a B6 RS4 and the other has a BMW 335d and they both have VW Transporters that I have a liking to.

I am indeed, although it says 'glass maintenance engineer' on my passport
I think the two guys you know are considerably more successful than me by the sound of it

Not many of those B6 RS4 around!

They must do a lot of cleaning although the amount I have been charged by them I'm not so sure they need to do so many.
-
Not many of those B6 RS4 around!
Fair few of them around Solihull area.
-
Too much car for me, I'll stick with the Golf.
Whatever your window cleaner is charging, it's better than attempting to do them yourself in my experience.
-
Nice little write up. Good to hear you are enjoying the car, and the cleaning of the car.
The red footwells are a great little mod, and look much less 'brothel' like in the flesh. Blue in mine of course. Plus get yourself the decent colour edged Premie Super Lux mats from http://www.carmats2u.co.uk//vw-golf-car-mats-mk7-2013-onwards-2486-p.asp. So much better quality than the standard mats. Much nicer underfoot and the added heal pad is great. I went for the two tone colour edging on mine (blue for an R) and added a logo which finishes them off nicely.
These things are small details but just lift the interior which can be a bit 'grey' otherwise.
We use a window cleaner and he does a brilliant job but he drives like a maniac!
-

Audi made B5, B7 & B8 variants of the RS4, never a B6.
They did make a B6 S4 with the less powerful 4.2V8.
It wouldn't surprise me if there were B6 RS4 in Solihull, but they won't have been built by Audi! ;)

Stupid me getting my B numbers mixed up. Yes I meant B7 and I wouldn't mind but I had a B6 S4 years ago.
Do you know Solihull? It sounds like you do. I used to live in a place called Dickens Heath or as I call it Dickheads Heath.

When you say you added a logo was this the genuine R logo or just a letter R as I can't see anywhere to upload one. I've been looking for some mats with the genuine GTi logo with the exact font but all I can find are horrible cheap copies, or American ones, or Mk6 ones.

B7 was almost a 6 1/2 or facelift 6 at the end of the day.
Sorry I don't know Sollihul at all, I've never been there. I try not to go north of Highgate if I can help it. :)

Quite fancy a set of those mats myself... will see after pay day. Think I would go black edge with grey stitching and a GTD logo. These cars should come with specific mats like this as standard really, as it would make it look just a bit more special.

Maybe its a typo you have made or maybe I'm wrong but I always thought the GTI was all capitals rather than how you have put it above GTi
Anyone know for sure?

Yes, for the Golf GTI VW have traditionally used a serif font with all three letters in capitals. :nerd:
-
I used all capitals in the thread title so it must be correct

Genuine R logo. I sent them several pictures of the genuine R logo. There isn't the facility on their website to upload an image so in the 'add logo' box I wrote down I wanted the genuine logo and would email pics. I placed the order and when I got the confirmation email, I replied attaching some images of the logo. Just do the same with a GTI logo.

They should come with better mats as standard, but don't. Still the standard mats come in handy as a set of winter mats. Better than rubber ones IMO as mud sticks better to the carpet fabric and saves it rolling around the footwell as it does with rubber ones. Good mats come out spring time and get tucked away just before winter.

Not a typo, but yeah, wrong. I'd gotten into the habit of using a lowercase I for GTI's/TDI's etc.
Thanks for the info, Booth11.

I didn't get a logo added but I did have a short exchange of email with the owner, really nice guy and he said they are a small family business. To my mind, especially with the quality of product they supply, they really deserve the business especially with the excellent service they give. Very happy with mine, vastly superior to the oem ones which I keep in the boot for emergencies!
-
I'm not sure about the red trim. I think all black or grey with the GTI logo in very small red letters is the way forward for me.
Suits my personality better I believe

I think that could be too subtle. On my Mk6 GTI I had the optional VW GTI logo' deluxe mats which just had grey piping but red stitching and small GTI logo in red, and as they wore over time, the stitching became invisible and the logo all but disappeared. And even though they cost more than the carmats2u ones, the quality was far inferior.
I'd echo what Watts says - great family business, great service, excellent top quality product, customisable to your exact requirements, good price - whatever design you choose, it's a no-brainier.

That's the plan with mine too. I almost went and got a set of front rubber mats for the winter but talked myself out of it. Glad I did now.
I went and looked at your flikr Rebecca to see what your mats are like and have a couple of questions re logos - is it stitched or printed somehow... was the logo you provided in the exact colour that it is on your mats. Basically am wondering the best way to provide them with the logo and what sort - e.g. photo/outline. Bit cheeky, but if you get chance could you post a pic of the R logo on your mats? Thanks.

I bought a similar set of mats for my A3, with s line embroidered on them :embarrassed:
They also had the reinforced heel section and I got the heels of my shoes stuck on them all the time.
Anyone had the same issue as this with these mats?

Hi Dave, sorry missed this earlier. Yes the R logo is printed on rather than embroidered. I just sent them 3 different pics of the R logo off the internet, none of which were coloured. I chose the colour from the choices on their website - I went for the logo in Electric Blue, which is THE perfect match with the blue needles on the dash dials.
All you need to do is email them a pic of my logo below. Loads have people have used that pic now. What I did was place the order online, then when I got the confirmation email I replied to it attaching a pic of the logo. Also the pic below is a much better rendition of the true colour of the logo compared to some of the pics in my 'thoughts on the R' thread, which are a bit washed out looking, like the one above.
Here is a run down of what I selected for my exact mats:
On the order form drop down menus I selected as follows:
Carpet, rubber type - Premier Super Luxe
Colour - Black
Edge Colour - Twin Two Tone Edge Black/Blue
Edging Type - I have ordered Twin colour edge
Right Hand drive
Automatic
Add info. Logo etc here - Please include the new Golf R logo on the front mats - photo of logo to follow by email. Logo to be in Electric Blue colour.
Add a logo - Yes please, both front mats
Choose fixings - Push Fit Fixing - round

This pic is probably the most accurate representation of the true colours of the edging and logo. I love my mats.

Aren't all blokes like that on a Sat morning?

I bought a similar set of mats for my A3, with s line embroidered on them :embarrassed:
They also had the reinforced heel section and I got the heels of my shoes stuck on them all the time.
Anyone had the same issue as this with these mats?
No, never had problems with shoe heels sticking - maybe you should stick to ballet flats from now on.
It must be my trick feet or the mats where sh!te.
I like the two tone edge on your mats Rebecca, very subtle but makes a difference.
The only thing that pisses me off with mats is that you only ever really need to change the drivers mat. The others just don't wear but who will sell you just one mat?

Nobody will sell you one mat and rightly so......don't be such a cheapskate kalimon, treat your self/car to a full set of matching mats otherwise it will look ridiculous, and I won't be able to sleep at night knowing there's a GTI out there with mismatched mats.
The two-tone edge is great, it just breaks the edge up a bit and stops it being too much. I think a solid piped edge could look a bit tacky plus they are fake leather whereas the two tone is fabric edging and classier IMO.

It's common knowledge that I'm 'careful' with my hard earned, that's the Scottish in me
Admit it, when your new drivers mat has a hole in it but the other 3 are perfect, it will mildly irritate you that you will have to throw 3 away good mats away and buy a full new set

Unlike you, I don't drive in stiletto heels, so there will never be a hole in my driver's mat, and your prediction will never be realised. Get your wallet out you tight ***.

There could be a market here for odd car mats.
Obviously drivers mats wear badly so single driver's mats would be handy to be able to purchase separately.
But how about the other mats? Well, if your kids step in a dog turd (and it's not just kids eh Ms B?!!) and if you live somewhere it's not practical to scrub the thing outside and hang it out to dry and de-stink then just binning the fecker and buying a new passenger or rear mat as a single could be a handy thing.
I feel a potential eBay business appearing here...

It's never you.
So, you and Mr Ex can set up the odd car mat eBay business. Don't give up the day job.

I'm beginning to think my views don't get quite the respect they deserve

Aside from the ones you put in the section that begins with D

Course we respect you and forum would be a duller place without you, even in your Saturday morning gassy state.:smiley:

Well as the majority of my words are put in the D section there's not a lot to hang onto Mr Ex.

Hope this helps.
Thanks Bec for your extremely detailed (as always ) response. Exactly what I was looking for!
Sorry should have looked at the mods thread, I forgot about that one.
Not going to comment on anybody's choice of footwear here, but I did have mats without heel reinforcement in the fiesta and started to wear a hole in them after a year or so.
