Title: Mk3 golf won't start.
Post by: Mr bouze on 09 April 2016, 10:41
Hello there, about two years ago I bought a 1.4 mk3 golf match/CL (engine code ABD). Starting from about a year ago, it would sometimes decide not to start if it was warm (pretty much non existent in winter though). I assumed that the water temperature sensor was faulty, but I noticed that every time it wouldn't start, the oil light would flash as it was turning over and sometimes the speedo and tachometer would flick a little. I ignored this problem as it would usually start after fifteen minutes or so after the first failed attempt.

Last night though it refused to start completely (oil light flashing as usual when turning over). I left it over night thinking it would fire in the morning, but unfortunately it isn't and I fear it's not going to until the problem has been fixed. Any ideas?

Distributor cap, leads, coils and plugs have all been replaced, and I can hear the fuel pump relay click when I turn th ignition on.

Sounds like hall sender or its wiring is at fault.

Does it turn?
If not your starter brushes might need replacing
