Title: water leak....
Post by: Blue MK2 on 23 October 2003, 21:59
Ive got a water leak on the part pointed below.
VAG told me that it comes with no gasket.
They told me this part cracks because it only has two bolts and if they are done up too tight this item can crack causing a leak?

Its the part that i think the cold start valve sits on.
Have a look....

Do you mean the elbow itself?

I had a similar part fail on my old 8V, think it cost me about a tenner to replace. It has an o-ring seal rather than a gasket. Make sure you clean up the face on the engine block really well or you will find it hard to get the new part to seal. It wont be the cold start valve on the top of the elbow, that's part of the fuel system not the cooling system. More likely to be a temp sensor of some description.

I'd go along with that, check the coolant sensors before changing the elbow itself.
