Hi all,
I have 2x golf cabrio with AGG engines, (97 MK3 and 98 MK3.5) the 97 is playing up!
When I start it, it revs up 3 or 4 times to 2000 plus rpm and then settles down to 1100 and stays there!
I have swapped just about everything from the 98 to the 97, ( throttle body, maf, air intake hose, air filter and body and sensor, heat sensor) the 98 still run fine with the 97 parts and the 97 still misbehaves.
I'm at a loss!
The crank angle sensor has been replaced before.
Please help
Val

ECUs swapped over?
-
Thanks,
Any tricks when doing that? Do they need to be reset to the car and how? Because I've swapped then and now I have two car that don't start......... :embarrassed:
-
Havnt mk3 ecus got immobiliser fitted.
-
That's what it sounds like, it fires up and dies strait away like if using a key without the chip.
Is there a way to get around that?
-
Try having the other cars key near the barrel so it picks up the chip.
I cant rember how they work but a mate use to have a key taped to a imob ring in his fusebox on his mk2
-
Other car keys won't help you there.
You can use the keys that fit car, you only need to match immo and engine ecu (no login required for that)
-
Swapped the ecu's to their proper car and they start again. Problem still there with the blue one.
-
Swap ECUs and marry it to cars immobiliser (no PIN required and you can marry it to other car again afterwards with no issues).
More here (despite what it says I never needed PIN):

Thanks,
Interesting, but I don't have the program to do that.
-
Find someone with a (genuine) VCDS cable then
-
Plugged the car onto computer today and it cam up with "throttle positioning/ improbable reading"
-
potentiometer on throttle
-
That's what it sounds like, but the throttle body got swapped with a working one and that includes the potentiometer I'm pretty sure!
I'm thinking electrical, I've tested all the wires coming out of the throttle body for continuity and the ones from heat sensor, all good.
-
I'm still looking for ideas/suggestions or THE answer..... Thanks :undecided:
-
Finally fixed yeah
It turned out that the "throttle positioning sensor" needed to be reset, an auto electrician, with car specific software, did that.
Thanks for all that replied and I hope it can help someone else.
Cheers

Yes it needs to be matched..... VCDS can do that, for a mk3 you would only need a kkl cable and VCDS lite..... even with registration it's not too expensive.
