Title: Temperature Gauge, Is there a way i can test it?
Post by: gtihammy on 26 March 2016, 01:10
So I was getting the car ready for summer left it running for a fair while tbh id actually forgotten it was sitting running outside at one point but my temperature gauge was still sitting at zero, i then fitted another temperature sensor just to try it took the car a quick run the gauge still didnt move,

does anybody know if there is a way i can test if its the sensor or the gauge?

thanks in advance guys

Fault in the wiring loom or speedo itself.

To test wiring loom use a multimeter (pin 1 and 2 on the loom that plugs into speedo).
The sensor is NTC, at ambient temperature you should have a few kOhms, at temperature it will go down to a few hundred ohms.

You can test the speedo by putting GND on pin 3 and 12V to pin 11 and 13 - use a 500 ohm resistor connected across pin 1 and 2 and temp gauge should go up.

To double check the sensor end of things just put the wire that goes to it direct to earth and turn on ignition.Gauge should go all the way up.

If its not that then its a loom fault or the clocks themselves.
