My Gti seems to be creaking away when i go over bumps and humps in the road, say in a supermarket with the slow down humps, makes a horrible creaking noise, how can i fix this
-
Mine was doing the same, I had put it down to the very wet winter and the poor state of our roads.
Fortunately I had a service this week, so could get VW to have a look. All fixed now and feels a lot better too, not sure what they did though - sorry, not much help to you.
-
cheers, maybe i'll phone the garage and ask their advice...
-
l feel ur pain Aidey,
Mine creaked away in exactly the same circumstances and was looked at at least 4 or 5 times over nearly 2 years, only to be told each time 'everything seems fine' and 'weve greased eveything'
Anyway, i knew it wasnt right and my persistence was rewarded when low and behold, a TPI issued in April 15 advised to drop and grease the wishbone bushes with a higher density/ correct grease and not the 'spray grease' which was used previously.
Creakng then cured..!!
I know others have had different experiences of faulty shocks/ bearings etc but this was my experience so i hope it helps.!

Cheers Fabio, i will tell them this at my dealership

Is the car relatively new? If so, check that the transport pucks aren't still fitted to the front shocks. Seems to be a common issue recently - the first sign is usually squeaky suspension!
-
No, she is 2 years old now, due to health issues I've only done 8'000 miles in it though

Hi Aidey
If your GTI is two years old it would be worth jacking it up and checking the front suspension for the delivery blocks. This was a very common issue back in 2013 and I was affected. Many owners needed the front shock mounts replaced after this issue myself included...

Got a number for that tpi?
I thought it was my dynamic chassis shocks. Get an irritating noise from the fronts over bumps but dealers just tell me unable to replicate... Eish.
-
I dont have the number unfortunately.
I did have the bulletin in my hand though and meant to take a photo on my phone but the warranty manager walked back in the room.
It definitely said issued 15th April though.
They dropped the wishbone from the sub frame and then afterwards i could clearly see a think bead of lube around the bush where the aforementioned meet .
Incidentally, i was also experiencing a 'clunking' noise under similar circumstances. This turned out to be a broken bracket which holds the auxillary water pump in place. ( located at front of engine apparently ). The pump was obviously moving up and down over bumps and undulations causing the 'clunking'
Just goes to show that whilst we all experience similar sounds, it could be many different causes.
Perseverance is key.!
Now i just suffer a multitude of rattles and vibrations from various bits of trim ( I had the air vent TPI applied as well which cured a terrible rattle from drivers side but seemed to introduce a new low frequency vibration on the passenger side.!
Car does my head in but i still love it and am hoping a GTD Estate Bi Turbo appears soon as need to order something new soon.!!
