Title: gti 288mm disc question
Post by: willz94 on 20 March 2016, 21:09
hi guys just wondering if the discs off a mk4 golf will fit? the dimentions are the same being:

VENTED DISCS (FRONT), SOLID DISCS (REAR) FRONT DISC SPEC - 288mm DIAMETER - 5 HOLE FITTING - 25mm THICKNESS REAR DISC SPEC - 232mm DIAMETER - 5 HOLE FITTING - 9mm

any reason why these would not be fine?

I remeber trying some 288 of a a3 on my golf and it seemed to me that the offset of the disc was further back and thats why I didnt fit them. But that could have been down to the carrier. Was 3 or 4 years ago

As above, Mk4 use a different offset disc.

I read ages ago that it was possible.
Yes off-set is a problem, but IIRC you need Mk4 calipers / carriers and some proper spacers - not just washers - 6mm seems to jump out.
But if you are doing this why limit yourself to 288 when you could have 312 diameter, only difference is the carrier -best sourced from TT with the calipers.

I would have done this to my valver, I had spare calipers & carriers but I run RX2's space is at a premium and would have had to go up a wheel size.

You can get 312 under 16s just gotta shave the calliper a little to clear
