Title: mk2 clutch
Post by: normski216 on 20 March 2016, 09:21
Hi all, I have a beautiful, 1989 mk2 oakie with a degrading clutch slip problem.
As the engine has had a few tweaks I'm pondering the wisdom of putting a mk3 2.0l clutch kit in over the 1.8l 16v.
My logic bring this should be able to cope with the increased output better than the standard kit.
My question is can this be done "off the shelf" ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, youd have to change the gearbox to allow the clurch to work. But you could probally get an uprated clutch kit. Not sure though because the clutches on mk2s arent a conventional set up

Sachs 16v Gti clutch kit will be fine mate, a Mk3 8v Gti cluch is not an upgrade.

My old motor- bought off Tim?

I'd swap the 8v box out & get the 2y 16v box back in there.

Whilst all apart check for evidence of leaks from either the box or crank end seal & repair as req'd

A Sachs 16v clutch kit is all it should ever need mate!
