Title: Askmid details for the Mk7
Post by: p3asa on 19 March 2016, 10:37
Following on from another topic, we had to insure our car by giving the insurance company details of the car rather than the registration number as it hadn't yet been registered. My wife did it and they were asking her all sorts of weird questions like "Is it the turbo model"

Anyway I've just checked on the http://ownvehicle.askmid.com/ site and ours comes back as an "09 on" car. I would have thought it would be later than that. Can someone check what their GTI is classed as?

Cheers.

Here's ours in full: VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 2.0 (09ON)5D GTI (210)

I was under the impression (09on) denotes it's a Mk7

Isn't 09 on the MK6 -thought the MK7 was 13 on ?

Also the MK6 GTI was 210ps, the MK7 is 220 ps

Just checked and mine comes up as "13ON AU"

These databases are a load of old guff really

My GTD comes back as:

Vehicle Make/Model: VOLKSWAGEN
Vehicle Type: OTHER

Quite why the idiots are incapable of standardised data input conventions, who knows, but idiots they are.

Yeah,I would say they think its a MK6 Gti.
I think I would get in touch with them because it may give them enough to try to wriggle off the hook in the event of a claim.

Thanks guys for checking.
Yeah I thought it was a Mk6 they had put it through as the questions were quite bizarre and I couldn't mind at the time if the Mk7 was 210 or 220.
It might even be cheaper as I'm sure due to the safety features on the M7 it brings the premium down.

I'll give them a phone.

I phoned DirectLine and the models she had on her system all had a T at the end of them for the 13on, as in Golf GTI 2.0T or Golf GTI 2.0T Performance.

Anyway she contacted another department and it looks like they had put me through as a Mk6 GTI which meant I also got some ££ back.

Shocking that a database, used for something as crucial as insurance, is such a shoddy piece of crap. Many people won't have the knowledge, or interest, to question what comes back when they key in their registration, yet the insurance companies, covering their own backsides by giving you the option to "correct" it, will, no doubt use it as a wriggle out. Run by the insurers for the insurers!

All sorted. Now showing

Vehicle:  VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 2.0T
Make/Model:  (13ON) GTI 5DR

I thought the askmid was just a generic database but it says
If the vehicle make and model details are not correct you must contact your insurance provider to resolve the issue.

Thanks for this. I just checked mine and it also showed an 09 on! Called to change it and got £30 back. Not bad, insurance for £220 a year.
