I've done 5,500 miles (almost 100% motorway, sitting at 75mph) since getting my GTD brand new in November. Today, while driving on the M4, I got an oil warning, similar to the washer fluid warning. Seems that the car is drinking oil...? Is that normal?
I haven't had a chance to check the oil, but will do so tomorrow. What's the best oil to get and cheapest place to get it? It's some sort of 5W-30?

Castro edge 05/30. You can get 1tr bottles from Tesco petrol station for £12.00 a litre bottle

"drinking oil" is a bit of an overstatement when it's gone through around a litre in 5500 miles, well within what VW and any other car manufacturer would consider tolerable. If ran in on varied loads and speeds, VAG engines can quite often go between services without needing a top-up. A motorway run-in is not the way to do it. I've had 7 VW TDIs from new and neither used a drop of oil between services, except one that spent its first 800 miles on the motorway maintaining 80mph in 6th gear. That needed a litre after 300 miles, another after a further 400 miles and a litre every 1200 miles or so thereafter.

Mine drinks about a 1 litre for every 10k.
Like Cheech, I'm a motorway mile muncher.

Mine used a bit in first 10k miles..... nearly 100k on the clock now (in about 28 months) and I've only used about 2l in total.

Mine too, and according to the dealership it is not uncommon... My driving is a mix with, I guess, about 60% motorway.
