Title: S2T paddle shifters
Post by: Bungleaio on 15 March 2016, 20:29
I would like to add some of these to my car but I'm torn between the B2 and B3

B2

B3

Whichever I go with will be black anodised but the silver images are easier to see. Any advice?

I've got the B3 in Polished Black in mine.  The quality of the S2T paddles is excellent.  Pictures really don't do them justice, They are much better in the flesh.  Also arrive very quickly from the US - delivered within 4 days of ordering!!!

Style wise they all look nicely oem, but I think style choice also depends on your natural hand position on the wheel, with B1's suiting the traditional 10-2 position and the curve echoes the curve of the wheel.  B2 and B3's  suit a slightly lower hand position 9-3 and that's where my hands are when using paddles so they suit me plus I prefer the shorter style of them. The shape of the B3's along the top of the shifter nicely mirrors the shape of the black trim.

On the R forum these are being discussed and someone has posted the link to an open group buy (not specific to that forum) which reduces the cost by $50 roughly, so maybe you could get in quick buying via that link.  See the thread here http://www.vwroc.com/forums/topic/12849-the-paddle-shifter-extensions/?p=214395  There's  some pics of the style you are thinking of getting at post #10 (2nd pic) albeit in black.

Here's my B3's in polished black

Fantastic reply thank you.

Do they get in the way when you aren't using them?

No, not at all.  And despite what you might have read, they do not hit the indicator or wiper stalks at all, there is plenty of clearance.  The lower half of them is less effective for changing gear ( the bits the sit below the forks of the wheel) but anything from half way and up work beautifully.  Each style is quite different but the B3's have a lovely deep groove along the length of the back of the paddle which the fingers fit into perfectly.  They are extremely ergonomic and beautifully engineered and though pricey, are head and shoulders above any other shifter I have seen.

The groove was what I was concerned about, nice to hear from someone who has used them first hand. The B3's in your photos look great so I think I'll copy you and go for those.

Thanks for your help

They do look beautifully made, but it looks like you loose the illumination of the originals. Guessing that's not a problem?

Yes you lose the illumination, but it's a very small price to pay to have a decent set of shifters and be rid of the weedy plastic standard ones.  Plus I think you should really know which is - and + by heart.

I've got a set of B3 on the car and B1 in the natural matt black, made a real difference in manual mode as you can change gear at 10 to 2, worked a treat on track they just feel more intuitive to use

It will take you longer to read the excellent guide on here by Boothy than fit them
