Title: Now I'm in a rush to get my car after tonight
Post by: Mk7-GTD on 09 March 2016, 20:47
Women in a Land Rover Discovery at about 30mph.

Not a mark on her Discovery. My wife and I were in the car, I'm fairly okay with just a few pains but my wife hurt he neck and lower back but will be fine in a bit.

To top it all off the police were still trying to sort out her insurance cover, ie. she didn't have any but was saying she has.

That is gutting, really sorry for your bad luck. Hope you both have no long term pains that's the main thing.

From personal experience I would get checked out. (not from a claim point of view) but I had someone fit me a low speed and i did nothing about it, 6 months later my right wrist (the one holding the steering wheel at impact) was still hurting in certain positions.  I thought it would be no worse than falling off my mountain bike, but surprising how long these injuries, no matter how slight, can last.

Very sorry to read this.  Hope you both get over it quickly, including the aches and pains. As Jackie Treehorn says, maybe you should both get a check over.  These things can manifest themselves later down the line if there's undetected injury.

Hope you can put it behind you soon enough.  New car will help.

And quite often the pain can come on strong a day later. When I got rear ended static, parked outside my wife's place of work to pick her up at about 4pm, I didn't feel bad at all, I had an ok night's sleep, got a lift to the local Enterprise to pick up the legal cover arranged hire car, drove it home and about an hour later (around 2pm) my neck and shoulder were agonising. The hire car stood where i'd parked it for 3 days (my wife didn't drive back then) and I asked Enterprise to come and collect it as it wouldn't get any use.

Wow sorry to hear about your accident. Hopefully you and the good lady will be on the mend before you know it.

Nothing worse being in an accident, especially so when it is no fault of your own.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for all the replies.

We were checked over by the ambulance guy and girl. They did say to think about how we feel in the morning and if anything feels too bad then call into Solihull hospital. However as it turns out I actually had a cut on my right leg just on the bottom of the inside scar but because I don't have any feeling in my right leg I didn't know until my wife asked where the stains on the carpet were coming from when I went to get a beer. It must have been from the brake pedal as my foot was just on the floor of the car and not on the pedal.

Either way not something that a bit of packing won't sort out until the doctor opens in the morning.

If there is anyone that can shed some light on whether or not the car is fixable? It is a 13 reg car.

Comforting yourself with a beer - that's the way to do it.

it all comes down to cost of repair but if the 1/4 panels have been damaged chances are they wont but it looks like just the bumper tailgate and rear panel damage in the picture

Ouch!

Glad nobody was seriously hurt and hopefully no long lasting pain.

Not really any consolation but at least it's the outgoing car damaged and not the incoming.

Fingers crossed the car is fixable and you don't get too many hassles before the Golf arrives.

Sorry to hear of your accident but glad you are both ok .
My wife (driving my car )got hit by another car years ago but I had already done a deal to trade it in to the garage and get another one the next weekend , I contacted the dealer and they were ok with the deal going ahead as long as it got sorted at a local repairers , which after a lot of hassle the insurance agreed to, I got my next car and the dealer got my smashed one but they had to wait weeks to get authorisation to carry out repairs Insurance company were crap anyway but took ages to send out guy to check damage ,in  fact they authorised repair without seeing car after weeks of my moaning /complaining ( I am good at that though ! ! ! )
If you are trading the car soon in are you going to contact the garage and see if the deal will still go ahead ?
Any word from the police regarding if the woman has insurance or not ?

Update on the accident last night.

Turns out that the woman driving the Discovery is estranged from her husband who owns the car and wouldn't tell her who the car was insured with. Talking to her this morning she told me some stuff that I wasn't really wanting to get into but I also spoke to him and let's just say both are saying the other are b!tch/bastard but thankfully both were as nice as pie to me. One thing though is that talking to them both had made me realise even more that I have such a happy marriage.

She has admitted that it was her fault and after I got her insurance details from her husband and passed them onto her she has rang her insurance company and admitted she was at fault. The car does have some creasing on both rear quarter panels and I can't get my spare wheel out as it is jammed into the wheel well so I think that the car may be totalled.

My car is getting collected tomorrow and in the morning I'm picking up a Passat R line 240ps and I will have that until the end of next week and then I'm picking up a Golf R late next week. Both cars are DSG and as some of you will know that they are both cars that myself and my wife were thinking of buying to go with the GTD hatch I have on order so as the saying goes 'every cloud has a silver lining' and all that.

Pain wise we are both feeling worse today and I had my leg sorted out at the hospital today and yet another silver lining, up to now I had because of various accidents over years of(mainly from road racing) had 497 stitches on different parts of my body. Great news I got 4 stitches today so I'm now over 500 stitches or staples.

Good on you for seeing the bright side! Hope it all works out OK and isn't too stressful for you. At least you get to drive some different cars for a couple of weeks!

Every cloud right enough Mk7-GTD.
That's a bit of a result. How did you manage to secure them as the loan cars? Are you using one of those Accident Management companies?
My son got hit by a police car recently and he had to slum it in an Aygo. I could run faster than that thing.

Every cloud, yes in a way but we were due to head off tomorrow for the first two F1 races but can't now due to my wife's back and neck. Mine isn't the best either but I'm not as bad as she is. Strangely the nail on my toe next to my big toe has gone black and it hurts like feck and I say strangely because I haven't had any feeling in it for 20 years.

The insurance company sorted the cars for me because the car that the repairers didn't suit me. The Passat bi-turbo is nice to drive and is very fast but it went into limp mode this afternoon so they are taking it away in a bit and they are giving me a Volvo VC90 R design as they don't have another for me until next week.

Quick update.

I broke a bone in my hand and the two toes next to my big toe. Hurt my back and neck as well but should be okay in a week or so.

My wife has compounded three vertebrae in her lower back and also hurt her neck but much worse than me. She will most lightly take a fair bit longer to mend than me.

Edit, compressed vertebrae

Sorry to hear that, just shows how important it is to get checked out following an accident as adrenaline probably masks issues. Hope you both get better soon. And get your new car!
