Anyone had or got this problem ?
I have an older Ipod connected via the USB, the unit is a Nav Pro.
What is happening is that if I start the days journey listening to the Radio (DAB), at some point the unit will automatically switch to the Ipod and start playing the very first track on the Ipod, so wont start where it left off, straight to the beginning. If I switch back to Radio, it will be fine for the rest of the day.
It appears to be completely random when it will switch to the USB/Ipod source, can happen after 15 minutes, an hour, or even before I have reversed off the drive. VW Dealer took a look and have said they updated the software, but it is still doing it. It was fine for about the first year of owning the car, now almost 2 years old.
ideas ?

I'd say 99% its a connection problem to the IPOD.
Either the socket in the car or a bad lead to the IPOD or the connector on the IPOD.
I say this because when you connect the IPOD (or in fact any media source), it does two things:
1) switch to that for input automatically
2) starts playing the first song (not the last one you were playing)
I reckon a loose connection that gets jolted out and then back in while you are driving.
Try another Apple cable (cheapest bit to swap) or check that the USB socket isn't loose and worn (more expensive to fit but you might get away with a warranty claim)....

Mine did a similar thing from both USB input and hard drive. About half the time, if you selected 'next track' it would just skip to track one on the first album beginning with A. Actually this happened more than half the time.
Discover Pro really is a pretty useless piece of kit - I regret speccing it.

Totally agree. Sounds like its a loose connection and that's it suddenly thinking its just make connection for all the reasons given above.

It's the flaky connection with your device. It is the same with the standard discovery Nav. As soon as you plug in a device it starts playing the songs from it not matter what source you were using before.

Yes
I have the standard media system with a classic iPod connected and it will randomly change from the DAB radio to the very first track on the iPod.
Have re seated the lead connections many times to solve this but it has always done this since the car was new.
Bit of a mystery?

Definitely a connection loss/regain.
Could be a flakey interface on the ipod itself... but definitely try a new cable first.

Sorry, should have said that this has happened with 3 different cables. So I am happy it is not a cable problem.
It is also so random, that I really cannot see it being a jolt or suchlike causing a connection issue. The last time it happened I had only started the car and reversed around 2 yards on the drive. The ipod stays in the cubby hole all the time and never gets connected or disconnected.
I wasnt aware that if you were to connect the ipod, it will automatically change to the USB source and start playing. Have to say the few times I have reconnected it, I dont recall that happening. But will mention it to the dealership next time.
Cheers

Ok, so the two other places it could be a bad connection are:
a) the car end
b) the ipod itself - you said it was an "old" one.
Try putting a USB memory stick or something else into the USB socket in the car with a couple of mp3s on it for a while and see if its doing the same thing. If it does the same thing, its the car.

Dont think its a bad connection - this is software related - current VW media kit is frankly awful....

Could it be the battery on your iPod?
If it happens after the car has been sat over night/extended period and the battery isn't holding charge on your iPod, then it will take a while for your iPod to charge before it powers on.
Once the iPod powers on the system will see it and switch to that input?
-
My R did the same but it didn't have nav, just the standard stereo. Always played the 1st song on my iPod classic every morning no matter what it was playing the night before. It never showed album art either. Just collected my new GTI - same ipod, same cable and everything works perfectly in the new car.

^^^^That's a good call too!
