Title: I want to Lower my car

hi folks,
I'm new to the forum.
I have a MK6 GTD which i'm looking to lower. Previous to this I had a mk4 estate which was on coilovers (good stance and wheel gap but 100% horrible ride)

So, springs seem to be quite a popular choice. Does any one have any advice or point me in the right direction of existing threads?
I don't want to slam it but I just want it a bit lower maybe about 3cm??
Also, would like it not to feel like i'm driving a bag of spanners.

i put expensive vwr springs (lower 20-25mm) (£220) on my mk6 gti and they aren't bad (ride quality is a bit stiff) , i'd personally go for VW driver gear springs which can be ordered from the dealer infact (a quick google will show mainly american posts) but these are genuine eibach springs made for VW, meant for 2.0 tdi mk6's and will lower well, last time I checked £115 at dealers for eibach springs? bargain! these lower around 15mm all round on your gtd but is noticeably lower, these also have proper VW part codes so no insurance hassle or warranty hassle.

these 2 springs will be the comfiest I think from my extensive research into not breaking my back

You could look into eibach prokit which is even lower than the 2 springs above, but will impact ride quality more. H&R's ive no experience with but some swear by

Yeah springs is the way to go, but i wouldnt recommend putting them on the standard shocks as they are not meant for the decrease in ride height.

I would go with the Bilstein B8 shocks paired with the VWR / Eibach springs, drops about 20-25mm (it was i have on mine)

Ride is a touch stiffer, but great handling.

Well, i suggest springs is the way if you just want to lower a bit, and still maintain some comfort.
Eibach, H&R and ST are very popular, and 30/30 lowering are superb.  :cool:

I lowered mine using Apex springs. Car had low mileage so seemed pointless replacing shocks.

Drop is 3cm which is just right IMO. Never had any issues with speed bumps and looks awesome. I thought the ride was same if not better than stock and I definitely noticed the handling benefits straight away!

Only gripe is that after two years there is some rust on them which I guess is typical?

Would be up for trying more expensive brands in future but a mate recommended these as he has them on his TT..
