Title: designer dubs basingstoke
Post by: dubslug on 27 September 2005, 17:11: these guys spent alot of time and effort in helping me get the 2.0l conversion done, always willing to give advice and sold me parts cheap, they seem like a nice enough bunch of guys in there
spent ages sorting my motor out and charged me next to nothing, will defo use again.
i know some ppl aint to happy with them but i am :grin:

The owner, Matt, is very straight to the point and doesn't mince his words....some people can't handle that and prefer the softly softly approach.

Also, what services do they offer is it just mechanical and if they do engine conversions are they happy to just deal with services? Looking for somwehere trustworthy and reliable to take mine, won't go to main dealers and my last garage was in Andover which is a nightmare if I have to leave the car there!

You from Basingstoke too then? I have seen a few GTi's bombing it about the place, some look pretty well modded others look like they're probably just someone's mode of transport and nothing more!

I may well give Designadub a try as I need to get the timing sorted out, it's over fuelling, so would rather take it somewhere that knows the cars and not chance it with somewhere like Halfords or National Autocentres. Those places give me the creeps anyway :grin:

What's your car look like, wonder if I've ever seen it about.

Makes interesting reading, and I guess would make me more aware. However, as a couple of guys have had no problems with them it may be worth taking it along for something straightforward like a service and see how that goes and make up my own mind from that.

It's a tough call when some say they are good and others slate them, you don't know which way to go! Cheers for making me aware though, appreciated. :smiley:

Post by: dubslug on 20 November 2005, 10:49: hey gem, my little dub is a black 5 door mk2, debadged front grill, crystal headlights,g60 front arches, havent got round to the rear yet, its been lowered and has 5 spoke aloys on it, has a twin pipe exhaust, big bumpers think thats abt it really lol, reg is h163 crt
this would be so much easier if i could post pics lol

wot abt ur motor??
oh and forgot to say i have a nice two litre sitting under the hood
as for using dd im still gonna be using them as and when i need to as i wont ever be doing a full on engine change, the guys have always taken loads of time on my car when ive had problems

Post by: rabbit_mk1 on 13 December 2005, 23:01: I've used Matt, Chris and nick at DD to help me with no end of things on my mk1, new mk2 and mk3 (from services to helping wiring in an ABF on motronic in a mk1), i've always been impressed with the helpful nature of the guys there and their 'can-do' attitude. I am well aware that some people (Rich, Dizzie etc) have had bad experiences, but the quality of the work they can do is evident from the quality of machinery in their work shop every time I visit. I would recommend them to others time and time again...

as a 'bird' and a complete novice some places are all too quick to try and rip you off but these guys are not only freindly and helpful they are totally straight down the line!

i'd defo recommend them to anyone, weather you're a seasoned dubber or a newbie like me!

I kept finding things that have been bodged or badly fitted and they basically didn't want to know when i
asked about it.

Just my opinion and i am sure people have had good service from them but i certainely haven't :cry:
