I have recently bought a Das Welt , 14 plate,5dr carbon grey Gti with a DSG box, never had an auto before but I like it-its a bit better than my Transit van!
Anyway, its currently done 17k miles and just had an oil and filter service when I picked it up,my pal has got an independant garage, is it worth getting him to change the DSG oil at this stage/mileage do you think?
Thanks for any advise in advance!

Thanks, not worth doing then? Would probably only cost me the oil and a drink?

As above 40k miles for DSG oil change http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/servicing/what-we-check-and-why/dsg-transmission-oil-and-filter-change#details

My dad has just had his done. He did quite well out of it.
He had the service pack but thought it had been spent (he's on 40k miles), but he got a letter from the dealership inviting him in for his last "free" service. When he went to pick the car up he was informed that it wasn't free at all, but he whipped out the letter and they waived the bill. They'd also done the DSG service without asking him and wanted £270. He had a ring around an independent VW specialist and they quoted £180, so he said he was prepated to pay that and not a penny more for unauthorised work.
£180 still seems pricey to me - is it any more involved than the oil change the haldex box on an R will get? That's a £90 job, not sure why a DSG oil change would be triple the price.

I think ill leave it then,I just thought it may help look after it-some people change their engine oil more often than the manufacturer's schedules!

£180 is about right, the oil is expensive and it takes a bit of time.

My old Audi's multitronic gearbox had 40000 mile oil changes but when it failed and I took it to an independent specialist for an overhaul (over £1200) they said a max of 20000 mile intervals was best as the oil was deteriorated. Perhaps the same for the dsg gearbox but it will take a while to find out (90000 miles for my Audi).
