I'm just finishing my order for my new Golf R and the dealer has told me that there is a non metallic black option??
Has anyone here got one? If so what's it like?
Thanks.

I would avoid it at all costs. It will look cheap and nasty especially next to deep black pearlescent

Love the non metallic black. When it's detailed it looks far deeper and blacker than the metallic version. Go for it.

Don't do it!
Any black shows swirls but none so badly as solid non-pearl black. You won't see many around for that very reason. My friend's Mk7 GTD was the solid black and it looked horrendous after 2 years.
Trust me, you can achieve a beautiful deep gloss with Deep Black Pearl if detailing is your thing, and if it's not, even more reason to stay away from solid black.

It does look better.. for about 10 mins after wash n waxing.
I had a solid black Golf once, to keep it looking presentable rather than concours, that became a hobby in itself!

This is news to me, I thought there was only 1 black for the R

Actually Ian you are right. Solid black is not an option for the R. But it is the only 'free' colour for the GTI and GTD.
OP, you have been misinformed, solid black is NOT available for the R. No great loss. Get Deep Black Pearl, it's lovely.

That's what I thought. I reckon the dealer does'nt know his stuff.
I'm between White, Lapiz blue and Tornado Red with the Pretoria alloys. Love the blue but it's very common. I've had a couple of white cars and I'd like a change but it does look good in white. I also think the red looks great but very boy racer.

TR is a good colour for the R.
Saw one today and it looked really cool and it was only sporting Cadiz alloys.

Assume the dealer knows nothing
All the co,it's are great. White would be to of my list of those for the R. Must say the R looks very good in Tornado Red with Pretorias. It seems to be a colour very well suited to this mark.

I should have Prets fitted to my TR car next week and will post pics when sorted.
But for now I'll leave you with this

That's fantastic looking. I've decided on red. All red cars are faster anyway!!

I've often been put off red because the rear lights kinda get lost, but with the darker tint that is a really good colour for the R
