Title: Airbag light! Fault code 00588
Post by: Jimmer13 on 14 February 2016, 00:38
Help! I have a 2000 1.9 tdi, perfect running order, in great condition! But I have the airbag light on and it won't go out.
On the diagnostic it reads "Code 00588 - airbag squib circuit, driver. Too high impedance. Permanent"
I have changed the squib twice, I have changed the wiring inside steering wheel, cleaned all yellow connections. Even taken seat out and removed the connection underneath and soldered together.
What else can I do, if I can't get the light out it will fail the MOT, the car is far to good to give up on.
Many thanks
Jim

Faulty Airbag? looks like the only thing you havent replaced?

and you can always just unplug the warning light to get it through the MOT (in the short term of course )

Have changed the airbag today, light still on but booked in to have the diagnostic plugged in tomo eve to try clear the fault.
Is there an easy way of unplugging the warning light?

Have changed the airbag today, light still on but booked in to have the diagnostic plugged in tomo eve to try clear the fault.

The light will remain on until the fault is cleared. I believe impact related air bag warnings are a lot harder to erase because its registered on the ECU. Not something i have experience of, just read about it.

Is there an easy way of unplugging the warning light?

apologies but i'm not familiar with the year/model so not sure about this. Where abouts is the warning light/s?
