Hi All,
Looking for a bit of advice here,
I own an April 15 Golf GTI in Carbon grey with discover nav and keyless entry.
I am at uni but have been on placement year and due to the large mileage ive been doing ive been driving my mum's SLK 250 CDI. the sole reason is the MPG getting about 10-15 mpg more than the golf. no brainer when im doing about 400 miles a week.
Anyway, the other day i was on the way to work and i was plowed into by another driver at complete fault of theirs. Gone through insurers etc and its a write off.
In the mean time they have leant me a 320d bmw. Brand new had 100 miles on it when i jumped into it. Problem is, i have always had a soft spot for the 1 series and spending time in a 3 has really solidified this. I now have my eyes on a M135i. there are some knocking about for around 25k for a new shape, low mileage, good enough spec for what im after.
Question is, How much is my golf worth?? Parkers says 21535 for 10000 miles part ex value. with a good private sell being up near 23-24k. This seems absurd to me knowing that i paid 26 for mine after discount, but on the vw website their are cars older than mine with 3 times the mileage hovering around 20k. Fully appreciate this has some dealer profit baked into the number.
Any advice on the price i could expect would be great. i can get away i reckon with about 3-4k to swap so i guess im hoping for 21-22k for mine.
Thanks in advance,
Charlie

I'm assuming you were the first owner (brand new, not a demo/very nearly new)? Check your insurance, some will replace new if it is written off or stolen in the first year (they won't give you what you paid back if you want cash though).
If you want cash, their first offer will likely be crap, you'll need to demonstrate that it's low by supplying them with some used prices from VW dealers to show you'd be out of pocket on their low-ball offer to replace like-for-like.

Sorry monkey hanger I think you've misunderstood
I wrote off the Mercedes not my golf but as a result I've been in a bmw and want a 135i so am trying to gauge the price of the golf at 10 months old

I part exed a May 2014 GTi 3 dr Manual with discover nav and winter pack at the end of Aug 2015, and got 20k for it after alot of haggling and part exing for an Audi. Prices have definitely softened since then - I doubt 6 months on that your car will be worth any more than £20k.
Good luck with the 135i, personally I cant get past the looks.

I still miss my M135i,over 4 months on and they still haven't sold it!.
Trade in values are all over the place for Golfs just now.BMW new car big discounts just add to the confusion.
-
Wow things have really changed at uni, I was lucky to have a nice classic mini when I was there because I worked part time and lived at home.
It's taken me years to be able to afford a brand new car, fair play to you for doing it at uni.

Yes, I was convinced you'd wrote your Golf off.
You'll lose your shirt cashing in at 10 months, You're probably looking at getting £20-21k, to see it on the used forecourt for £25k. Those Parkers prices don't seem to take into account the effect of the big deposit contribution and potential VW loyalty money available right now. You'll probably get very close to that by keeping it another year. I'd take a long drive in the 135i before deciding I wanted one on the strength of driving a 3 series around for a bit - they are quite different cars, that 320d will be massively more comfortable to drive.
-
Good time to be looking at a M135i, BMW are offering big deposit contributions on these, around £6k I think
-
I can get a nicely built one for 26k...
We buy any car offering me 20.5k for mine but obviously that is bottom trade price. I was pleasantly surprised with 20.5 if im honest.
I will definitely need to test it. Theres other decisions to be made like manual vs. auto etc.

Mine was an Auto.8 speed and the best in the business. You have to try one before you go manual.Always in the right gear at the right time. The facelifted version has synced the sat nav (even when switched off), with the auto gearbox for even more greatness!.
The noise on start up is just fantastic. You will keep your windows and/or door open just to hear it firing up.
Was getting av 33pmg on mine (mixed conditions).Pretty good considering the performance.
Best looking in 3 door Estoril Blue or Mineral Grey.Or maybe Valencia orange (Ginger) at a push.

I think the sat nav and auto box working together on the m135i is only on the optional pro nav though isn't it? It's a nice system, considered by some as the best in the business, but it is about £900 extra if I rember correctly. I think it comes out at about £20 a month on pcp.

Don't think I could live with the 135 looks even in its current guise but the 235 is a different story, lovely!!

Does look nice but less economical and about £75 a month more expensive on the best available deals. That's a lot of money for a rear end.

After 10 Months Ownership of the GTI. Today i signed on the dotted line for a new m135i that they had in stock.
I test drove today and loved it.
Gone for an auto which shall be interesting. Pick up in two weeks, Just want to say thanks to everyone for their help with any issues ive had. Its been fun, im sure ill be back at some point in the future but i think right now the GTI isnt the car i wanted it to be.

Can't believe my little Baby is still for sale over 4 months on at Arnold Clark Craigshaw (Aberdeen).£24k and only 1 careful previous owner!.
Maybe they should have given it a wash first.

Aye the engine is like a nuclear reactor.Might just go back to one just before they switch to FWD in a few years time.

I also love BMW's, my Wife has a 116i and even that is a joy to drive. Ergonomically, the cabin is superior IMO to the Golf.
I investigated changing my GTI for a 340i M-Sport recently, and although the price for the BMW was great (try a guy called Tony Lewis at Cooper BMW Croydon, mega prices), they offered me a P/X price for my March 2014 GTI with 27k miles on of £14k... My GFV is pretty much that after 4 years, yet here we are after half the term and the p/x prices are way down there.
My local VW dealer gave me a price of £17k p/x against an R Wagon. I negotiated 13% discount from new, but still after 2 years, it doesn't stack up for me to change.
Seems VW prices are all over the place at the mo.

I got a p/x offer from BMW's solihull's VW dealer at 19k but i had a we buy any car quote of 20.5 so i told them and then they did some witchcraft behind the scenes to make it affordable for me.
