If you don't need to press a fob to unlock, how are the leaving home lights activated when you are walking up to the car in the dark?

You just press the unlock button on the fob if you want the lights on.

Simon, it's as stated by Mk7-GTD - use the fob buttons, which probably has you wondering why it's called keyless. :laugh: But that aside, keyless is brilliant!

I do love the keyless but would prefer it was like the Renault Megane when it locks the car when you walk away from it...having to lock it by touching the door handle seems a bit pointless when you have to drop everything to touch the handle...I'm just being picky lol

I think this can be coded through VagCom.
With the Renault how does it work if you have someone in the car with you and you get out and walk away from the car?

With keyless the lights come on when
a ) you press the unlock button the key fob
b ) you put you hand in to pull the handle and it unlocks.
I have using VCDS modded mine to not require the pull stalk on leaving the car to put on the coming home lights. Instead they come on when I open the door.
They then stay on even after pressing the button on the handle to lock the car. (for the allotted time)
But I can get them to turn off early with a quick unlock then lock on the key fob.

I cannot confirm b) .... on mine LH only comes on when you open with fob, what's the point of turning lights on when you're at the door already :p

The only thing that can be coded with VCDS is to lock the car when you get out of it with the fob in your pocket and you shut the drivers door. However this is pointless as it locks the car as soon as you shut the door even if the key is still in range and also the fuel flap remains unlocked, it seems to be unaffected by this "feature". This is what I miss from my old Megane. With the Megane system, it locks the doors when the smart card is out of range. (the smart card is another thing I miss from Megane, compared to the owfully big and heavy VW fob).

I can confirm b). It is a setting in the infotainment menu under lighting. It's called Coming Home. What you are on about is the Leaving Home feature (turning lights on at doors unlock)

Did the great French engineers not royally f**k up the 'smart card' though by putting the whole for the key chain on the side that needed to be slit into the key hole in the dash, i.e. you could not have it on a key chain :D
I personally prefer the proper heavy feel of the VW key over the key card thing, that was a pain in trouser pockets.....

Not sure what you heard but on Megane 2 the card was not fully going into the dash slot. The end bit with the keychain hole on the side was staying clear outside the dash slot, it was also a bit ticker than the rest of the card as it contained the manual unlocking key blade inside.

I had a keychain on mine for years and never had any issues.The card reader slot had a stopping metal plate inside the dash so you could not push the card more than that. The only way you could potentially have the problem you described is if you would put a lot of force in it and bend the back plate then the card would go about 1/2 cm more inside which would cover the keychain hole and the card would stop in the ticker bit where the key blade is.
Anyway to get back on topic, I don't believe the purpose of keyless is meant to open windows and switch on leaving home lights automatically. It is not technically possible to make the car "know" when you want to use convenience opening or leaving home lights from a distance (unless the car reads your mind lol). The only option is to either press the button on the fob or pull the door handle.

But that's not a keychain hole - it's a hole that locks the key in the dash to stop it falling out while you're driving.

Joking aside Renault were the first iirc to launch keyless on mainstream cars so good on them but personally I prefer VW key (my GT has the same metal end for key chain as GTI etc). I just feels so much less flimsy.

I would prefer a keycard but only if it was thin enough so that it could fit in my wallet.
