Title: Milltek cat back
Post by: tedster on 30 January 2016, 11:48
Just had a Milltek cat back non res put on my gti, looks superb but I'm massively disappointed in the sound, doesn't sound much different to stock, will this improve over time.

I'm guessing it's the resonated version?

The resonated milltek systems are considered to be close to stock sound, non res are a bit louder but no where near as loud as piper or cobra systems.

It may get a little louder when it soots up a bit. At idle and off boost it will stay similar to stock noise levels, but on boost it will be a little louder, but without the drone on the motorway.

Would love to change my stock system, mainly for improved flow and for asthetics as the stock tailpipes have pitted and need to be slightly larger and more purposeful looking.

Which Milltek did you get? There are like 4 options for the GTI, different pipe diameter and different resonator configurations.

I got the non res cat back with jet 100mm tail pipes which are slash cut and inwardly rolled the look is spot on, and after a weeks motoring it's getting louder 😀

Yeah they tend to get about 15% louder when the carbon coats the exhaust. Did you get the 2.75" or the 3" race one.

I have the 3" Race turbo back (decat but with res) and sound spot on. Its not raspy, but has a really nice deep burble sound to it.

I've got the 2.75 cat back and it doesn't sound aftermarket when driving normal (haven't had oem to compare with) but when giving it some beans it's louder than stock ones I've heard and definately sounds better. Not sure if it's my imagination but it seems to sound a bit better when it's got some heat through through it/once the car gets to temp
