Title: Electric window motor (not the usual problem)
Post by: doona on 30 January 2016, 09:43
Hi, brand new to the forum, so go easy on me.

I have a 1996 mk3 GTI 8v 5 door, the drivers side front window is not working. I have checked the wires & they look fine, I've had the door card off and given the electric motor a tap with a hammer.

The motor then works for a week or so, before stopping. If i repeat the process, it works again!!!!

I am getting to the point where it driving me mad, so i need to replace the motor……….does anyone know if the motors are the same from other models? I'm thinking Passatt / Jetta / mk4 golf etc. And also if the motors are handed (i.e will a passenger side fit the driverside etc)

Any help / advice greatly received

Cheers

Rich

Motors are handed but you can use a rear one on the front and vice versa but you do have to change the casing if use a rear one on the front.

It's not a hard job to do,better to take the whole lot out and do it flat on a table in a well lit room, grease where you can.

Motors are not hard to get.

Cheers, I have struggled to source one from fleabay at a reasonable cost. Had a punt on a Passat one (£6 delivered) so fingers crossed
