Title: handbrake light on
Post by: nskeates on 21 January 2016, 08:38
Car is 2005. The handbrake light stays on while driving even tho handbrake is right down in off position. I have changed the handbrake switch and the brake fluid reservoir cap. Brake fluid is to top. The only time it seems to go out is when you pull wiggle wires down by handbrake switch. But can't seem to get consistent results. This is really annoying me now !!

Anybody got any ideas please.

Thanks

Shonky connection to the switch...or the switch itself?

So it has something to do with the wiring if wriggling/pulling makes it go out.

Nskeates,

If 'wiggling' the wires makes the warning light go off you're getting a spurious supply/ return.

Your handbrake switch allows the circuit to be made so if you've replaced that it would point to a fault with the supply cable.

It may be trapped in trim or chaffed against an adjacent cable.

The chances are its within the short area you're moving.

Are you able to see the cables or are they loomed/ taped together?

Look for a crushed area or a shiny wear area.

A torch and a small mirror are good for inspecting
