Title: Mk4 Golf Running Very Lumpy
Post by: niliano on 12 January 2016, 08:22
Hi Guys,

MK4 Golf 1.8T AGU engine Code

I have a issue and wanted to ask your opinions!

The other day I went out for a drive to Halfords to get a few bits to fix my door handle (was loose!) and the car to Halfords was running absolutely fine, didn't miss a beat accelerated and boosted exactly how it should be.

When I left Halfords and went up a ramp to a motorway and boosted the car all of a sudden shuddered and lost a lot of power.

Nursing the car which now sounds like a Subaru home I was barely able to get past 30 mph and going up a hill I was doing 20mph at 1mpg!

Checked the coil packs and cylinder 4 was the issue, As disconnecting the other 3 when engine was running made the engine shudder, Disconnect 4 and the car didn't change at all.

Put a new coilpack in and still the same outcome. moved coil packs around and again 4 was still the same.

Took the spark plug out of cylinder 4 and the tip was discoloured (almost white)

Today I have ordered 4 spark plugs (NGK ones) and 3 ignition coils.

If this doesn't work could anyone else shed light?

Do you think im on the right path to fixing this?

Ever since putting the spark plug from cylinder 4 to cylinder 3 the car isn't running as lumpy but still sounds like a Subaru!

Many thanks in advance

I would be checking your ignition amp as coil packs very rarely fail on the agu
