I think the screen has a higher resolution. It's bigger for sure.

Picked mine up this week and there is a separate handbook: "Composition Media, Discover Media (Generation 2), Infotainment system". The screen is just over 6" - the website says 6.5" and plenty big enough for me. I'm still overwhelmed by the jump in technology compared to our previous Toyotas (Auris and MR2) and have plenty yet to explore. I see Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are part of the system which is surprise but some reports I have read suggest they are currently less than fully functional.

New unit compared to old unit

* 6.5" screen   v   5.8"
* 800 x 480   v   480 x 240 res (in other words same res as Discover Pro now)
* More powerful CPU/GPU hardware
* Units have hardware support for Mirrorlink, Android Auto and Apple Carplay
* Units now have USB rather than proprietary Media in connection, devices inc. Apple now supported via proprietary USB cables
* Bluetooth supports simultaneous connection for two phones
* Discover Nav comes with 3 year Carnet subscription; using your mobile phone as a WiFi hotspot you can gain access to connected services such as weather, fuel prices and live traffic

So does the new spec come with the Apple car play and you don't need the app connect for that to work?

No. It has the hardware to support it. Its still an extra
The old units didn't have that hardware.

Ok I take it you can purchase the hardware from the dealer if you decide you want it after the build

In theory yes, but a lot of dealers appear not to  know how to do it.

Over twice the price, on a VW it is £100 as a build extra and £270 as a dealer upgrade
