have the dash light come on this week and it's still on now but I'm not noticing anything wrong and do around 40-50mls motorway driving per day.
I've seen other people suggest tightening the fuel cap, I've done this and currently there's about 1/3 of a tank left, I'll be filling up later so I'm hoping this will clear the warning.
Any other suggestions ?
It's an 09 DSG.

Check the fault codes in ECU, there is hundreds of things that could cause the light to come on.

Ah ok is there a guide for doing this and i guess I'll need to buy a device to connect to the ECU ?

So I got an ECU scanner and have the P2015 code coming up:
P2015 $07E87
Intake Manifold
Runner Position
Sensor / Switch
Circuit Range / Performance Bank 1a
So a google of this finds a common fault with the manifold/flapper and this thread has a mention of this being covered by an extended warranty though I called my local dealer and they didn't know anything about this:

I could seriously do without the cost of this right now so I'm going to look at some of the tips etc. others have suggested but that said if I am going to have to replace the manifold what are the non-stock\performance alternatives (people complain of this issue repeating so the stock option doesn't sound good) ?

Had the error code for about a year (I do regular scans) before the EML came on. No significant change in performance. Finally got fed up when the light started to come on every trip. You can get the intake manifold much cheaper from USA and if you can find a good indie prepared to fit it the cost comes down substantially. Labour charges should be about 2 hours.

Fault Location:
Intake Manifold Flap Position Sensor, Bank 1 - Implausible Signal
Possible Cause:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) active.
Power Loss.
Intake Manifold Flap faulty.
Intake Flap Motor 1 (V157) stuck/faulty.
Engine Control Module Software/Firmware Version faulty.
Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Intake Flap Motor 1 (V157) faulty.
Possible Solutions:
Check/Replace Wiring/Connector(s) from/to Intake Flap Motor 1 (V157).
Check Intake Manifold Flap.
Check/Replace Intake Flap Motor 1 (V157).
Perform Output Tests/Basic Setting.
Special Notes:
In some Cases the Issue can only be resolved by Replacing the whole Intake Manifold.
The Intake Flap Motor 1 (V157) and Intake Manifold Flap Potentiometer (G336) may be Part of the same Unit.
When found in a VW Golf/Jetta (1K): 1.9l PD-TDI (BRM), check Engine Control Module (ECM) Software Version:
03G-906-016-AB @ 7328 or 7550 as well as 03G-906-016-AC @ 7280 or 7551 do have a Software Error which requires a special Adaptation for the Intake Flap Motor 1 (V157) which at this Point can only be performed with the Factory Tool.

Thanks for this, I still have the warning but no noticeable impact and I currently don't have the time or money to sort it out anyhow though I'll look at possibly fixing the issue myself when time permits.

A quick update, I had the oil light come on about a week ago which I was expecting as I'd noticed that it was getting close to the min level so the oil warning light came up before I had a chance to top it up.
Anyway after adding the oil the engine light also went out and hasn't returned for over a week :)
Fingers crossed it stays away.
