I'm sure this has been covered numerous times, but after searching here, and google, i'm still not 100% on the right fault reader. they're only cheap i know but i would rather get it right first time around.
Ive got a 8V '96 GTI - the diagnostic connector is 16 pin and rectangular.
From the images i've seen it looks as though these fault readers have a 'trapezoid' shaped plug; does this matter? will it still fit?
ive also read that to be OBD2 the connector should have locations 4, 5, 7, 15, and 16 populated - mine has all of the above except number 5. Does this matter?
And lastly, if one of them is the right one, then which is it? I understand the U480 is a newer model?
thanks!

If you look on the back of the connector in your car you will see that there are only about 5 wires in total on the back of it.
The scanner in the pic below would do you a turn.

So the U480 is incompatible with my motor (8V AGG)

The U480 is for CAN OBD2 vehicles only - the mk3 is only OBD1 (1.5 maybe - only has an OBD2 plug).
We can do a remote session if you have a laptop and wifi in the car.
