Hey all
And a happy new year!
So i changed my headunit since the old one kept cutting out. Issue is the new one also does.
So i think my ignition switch might be on it's way out. But what other implications could this cause? Would a worn ignition switch also cut the power for the ECU for example? And what happens then?
Best Regards!

The ignition switch has several contacts that are switched at separate stages when you turn the key.
The radio is on the S-contact. The ECU is on a different one, however I would recommend swapping it anyway.
Genuine switch from VW is not very expensive, however the steering wheel needs to come off to replace it. So get yourself a puller to get the bush off.

Thanks a lot buddy.
So how much do i need to change? Do i need to change the entire thing, or just a sub-part? Maybe if someone has the spare part no?
Regards!

You don't need to remove the steering wheel at all,nor do you need a puller. All the switchgear stays where it is.

I did this job on my Mk3, Surprisingly easy and satisfying job to do.
From my research, it seemed the easiest way was steering column out with wheel and switches attached as outlined in this this thread:

Its a shame the pictures seem to have gone, but the description is pretty good.
Got a Topran one for about £8, its been great.
