Title: app player on mk7 R
Post by: wakey on 02 January 2016, 07:42
Hey

I understand that the option for the app player via the usb is a dealer option for £100.

Is this a software flash or can it be activated just by using vcds?

If it's a vcds activation then can someone please point me in the direction as I have the cable.

Many thanks in advance

Eta mine is a September 2015 with the standard small screen without factory navigation (although I've retrofitted the dealer gamin navigation.

Not 100% sure but don't you have to have pro nav for this option?

It doesn't have to be the Nav Pro, you can have the Car-Net App-Connect on the smaller unit as long as its MIB2.

@wakey There is loads of info online about dealers "being able" to activate it for you at a cost but I can only find one person having it done but after a search can't find it. If I recall correctly it was in the region of £200 to be activated.

Or according to this you could do it yourself!!

Buy it from VW http://volkswagen-accessories.ie/mirrorlink_activating_document

The part no to ask your dealer about is 5G0054830

Not quite sure what the "mirror link activation document" sold by Amazon does...

I would guess that somewhere in the menus there is an activation screen, into which you type in a one use code that then (using the GPRS datalink) connects to Volkswagen over the internet to validate and activate on your car...

A bit like using a prepaid card for your Xbox subscription...

On the other hand, i think it should be possible to hack the same functionality locally... if I had a MIB2 I'd give it a try, but i don't... MIB2 should be quite readily hackable I think you will find. MIB1 only isn't because its a pain to get the network connectivity up, MIB2 takes away those problems.
