Title: Any options for rear LEDs on estate?
Post by: Mk7-GTD on 26 December 2015, 12:43
I'm going to be ordering a GTD soon and I'm torn between the estate and 5 door. One thing that is putting me off the estate is that it doesn't have LED lights on the rear. I know it might seem like a small thing but I think that LEDs look so much better.

So are there any replacement light clusters and if not is it possible to replace all the bulbs in the rear lights with LEDs?

Any photos or videos?

Thanks

I'm not trying to hijack your thread....but I would like to put LEDs on the rear of my Mk4 Estate, so I'm interested in any reply which might surface.

Maybe try the mk4 section of the forum?

The array of LEDs in an LED light will look markedly different from the halogen set up with the halogen bulbs replaced with LED ones. I saw this first hand when recently in Vegas and behind a US spec MK7 GTI while in my hire car (also a US MK7 GTI).

If there are LED rear lights for the mk7 estate now how would this possibly help you with your mk4 estate?

Just running a quick search on Ebay I found plenty of LED rear lights for the mk4....

If you reread his original post you'll see he was asking about any photos or videos...that's what I was hoping to see as well.

The ebay route is very cost prohibitive and is avoided by most people in this neck of the woods.

Thanks for taking the time.

Yep but he was asking about photos or videos of an mk7, which looks very different to the old mk4.

Ebay cost prohibitive? There were plenty for under 150 euros/pounds, won't find much cheaper ones than them new (though I would not fit them, they're most likely all from PRC/ROC)..... second hand ones will often have failed LEDs or leaks.

OK, you win!!

150 Euro/ pounds + courier cost + plus customs checking charge + 200 mile trip to collect + storage and handling charge + admin costs....that comes to about 350 pounds. Then there is the fact that ebay and it's little bum licker, paypal, won't accept credit or debit cards issued in this country...bank transfers are the only option.  Lets take a hundred quid as an example...100 pounds to be transferred to your account...55 pounds transfer fee...15 pounds conversion fee...up to 8 months wait for the transactuion to be approved. In the meantime you are waiting for your money and I am waiting for my goods.  I am still waiting for stuff I ordered in 2012...it will come, sooner or later.

I've learned to live with what I have available to me...not what I  think is something due to  come yesterday!

You have much to learn Grasshopper!

Tbf ebay has served many many people very well as buyers and sellers myself included, however as has been said it's unlikely any support offered to the OP will be useful for your search.

Lets leave it at that and thanks for the input.

29 euros shipping to Bulgaria from Germany, both EU countries, there is no customs. 200 miles to collect?

I have to live with what I have too and I lived in 4 countries, so have learned some stuff can be complicated but unless you live on a small island or complete sticks ebay works fine.

I was looking at a GTD estate recently and said the exact same thing to the dealer. They assured me they do actually now come with them and that VW hadn't updated their website.

Not sure how true it is, but might be worth double checking.

Unfortunately not true. Some dealers/salespeople either don't know the cars they are selling or will say what the buyer wants to hear just to try and get a sale. I suppose that is why they get such a bad reputation sometimes.

Just to clarify the above...

Our customs people are very pedantic about stuff coming into and leaving the country (probably thanks to some shonky people in the past) and they still check every package...there is a charge for this and you have to pay it before said package is released. It is usually held at one of their facilities, either near Sofia, Russe or Burgas; which one depends on where it entered the country. Sofia is the closest to me and that entails a 200 mile round trip...the others are somewhat further away than that.

The ebay question is much more complicated...many sellers won't deal with Bulgaria, probably thanks to the above shonky folk! Paypal won't accept many credit or debit cards which are issued in Bulgaria...I don't used credit cards, but I do have a debit card which is linked to a healthy savings account over here...they won't have a bar of it!!!

I too, have lived in many other countries but this is the only one where I have come across frustrating rubbish like this.

Hope this clarifies the situation.
