Hey guys, went to close my passenger door yesterday and the lock wont catch anyone had this problem and how did you fix?
-
Has the door dropped? Close it slowly and look at alignment to the body and latch pin.
Otherwise could be the module itself. I hope you can secure the car OK? :-/
-
Hi,
no the door hasn't dropped, just seems as if the latch isn't clicking when I shut the door.
-
have you tried to lock mechanism manually
-
its not that it doesnt lock (although the keys i have have never worked on the passenger door) , it just doesnt catch when i close the door started stripping the door down to see what i could see but didnt realise the window regulator was such a pain and it was two dark to remove it last night.
Dont suppost you have a working door lock module kicking about Barry?
-
open the door and use a screwdriver to lock mechanism see if it locks
-
yeah barry it does move freely with a screwdriver but for some reason just wont catch when i close the door, sprayed with wd40 incase something sticking but no joy

I guess I will need the door lock module, do you know how hard these are to replace? do you need to remove window ?

cant see it being hard prob best to take window out the way

I've had plenty do this across the VAG range. It will be the latch! I've lubed them before and got them working again but doesn't always work and if it does only normally lasts a short time.
Genuine latches vary between about £100 and £150 ish.
-
Door latch is integral with the module and will cost you around £170 these days...
-
Wazzer can I just get one from a scrappie ?
-
Yes mate, green (later) modules are said to be less prone to failing although it's not unheard of
3 and 5 front door modules are the same, just the cable length is different but these can be swapped
-
thanks wazzer, mines is a 3 door, do these modules need coded in ?
-
Nope fit and go :afro:
-
Before you do all that, try adjusting the hook bolted on the pillar, these are adjustable and get pushed in by the door latch over time. Slacken the bolts, move towards the outside edge a bit, tighten and try the door. Small adjustments should get it working Ok, just fixed a door and boot on two of my cars this way.
-
a wee update, if i slam the door shut while using my foot on the bottom of the door it closes fine so I guess the door is sitting out at the bottom, how can I fix this ?
-
you sure the door has not dropped
-
why don't you nip round and take a look barry? after all two heads are better than one
