Title: White MK6 GTI
Post by: iian on 12 December 2015, 13:04
Hi Guys,

Thought I'd stick up a quick thread on my GTI.

Bought it around 2 months ago now after selling my E46 M3.

Was perfect spec for me (white 3dr, xenons, cloth and nav) all except DSG. Had a MK5 GTI with DSG, and always said I'd never buy a manual again, but this was too good a car at too good a price to miss.

Drove it standard for all of a week before I found some brand new FK Highsport coilovers for sale on gumtree for an absolute steal. Normally would write off any coilovers made by FK, however I had the highsports in my last GTI and they were brilliant coils for the money. I've had KWs and Weitecs before, and these easily compete for daily use.

SO stuck them in and fitted a set of CH-R's I'd bought previously.

Next up I bought a set of TTRS / RS3 Brakes for a bit of a steal. Have the better disk option, not that one which warps and causes wheel wobble. (According to the seller) Currently stripped and sanded back for a refurb. Not sure whether to go red or stay black, so feel free to fire opinions at me!

Also took advantage of Revo's -25% blackfriday deal, and got the car stage 1 mapped. Couldn't believe the difference. I've had Revo maps before, but this time definitely felt like a bigger jump in performance. Really enjoying the car as a result. Money well spent!

Have my eye on a turbo back exhaust, so hope to get that and an intake to jump up to stage 2 soon. Other plans are LED rears, smooth front bumper, wider wings to allow a further drop, maybe some ARBs and chassis mods.

Going for a good all-rounder. Something that can hit up a track day on Saturday, look good on the show field on Sunday, while still being comfortable and economical to take me to work on Monday morning.

Thanks for reading.

I am so madly in love with the CH-R's on this, they look perfect with that drop  My favourite BBS 'new wheel'. . . . An instant classic. Have you seen the CHR II's that are split rim? Only come in 20" and above I think but look amazing.

Like the sound of the plans you have for the car, be really interested in the wide wings. I looked at the SRS-Tec ones a while back but dont need the offset increase anymore with my new wheels.

Cars looking good, just need rear LEDs to finish the look off!

Fantastic looking car, the CH-Rs really suit it!!

Either red or black would look great on the TT-RS callipers, though red obviously matches the rears already so less work

Cheers lads.

Norvwich - Yeah, seen those. Remind me of BBS RSII's as well. And yeah, few friends have the SRS wings on MK5s, they give great feedback. Hoping to get them in January then get the front smoothed and all painted at the same time.

Seabrook - Aye swaying more towards red. Though I reckon I'd have to paint the rears are the same time too. Would really annoy me if they aren't the exact same shade of red! lol. Maybe I'll get lucky!

Cheers men.

In terms of updates, bought the Eurojet turbo back exhaust. Have MOT tomorrow, then should be fitted sometime next week all being well. Also have a clutch waiting should the current one decide to start slipping.

Also started cleaning the brakes up. Have hi-temp painted the discs in anthracite and the carriers satin black. Calipers are sanded down in prep for some VHT red paint.

After I get MOT out of the way this weekend, it'll be all guns blazing. Heading to UD in March, so want to have everything ready to go by then. Won't be showing, but it'll be nice having the car ready for the trip. Will keep you all posted with updates.

Its a while since I've last updated.

Been keeping up with the boring stuff, routine maintenance, got it through MOT etc.

Got the car Revo'd back in December by Chris at TG Performance after getting their black Friday promotion. Great service, and absolutely love the map. Then to carry on the performance side of things, got a Eurojet De-cat turbo back on a few weeks later, after MOT. Exhaust is spot on for what I was after, minimal increase in day-to-day noise but sounds awesome when your going for it. Need to play about to get it sitting exactly right, but otherwise very happy. Especially considering it was less than the price of most cat-backs alone.

Hope to get an intake sorted then get her mapped up to stage 2, but with other plans this will like be another month or 2 yet.

Otherwise, just been enjoying driving it. My GFs Dad owns a B&B up in Glenarm, which I've been using as an excuse to rake through the Mournes on a regular basis.

Also put the CH-Rs back on despite the winter. Though I'd imagine they'll hold up better to the elements than the factory monzas.

Then most recently I ordered a set of SRS tec 25mm wider wings, so I could run lower without any rubbing issues. I contacted the UK dealer and as luck would have it, he knew of a MK6 Golf set painted in candy white for sale privately. Took a punt on them in the hope they would be a good colour match and save me a few hundred quid having to paint a new set, however Parcelforce seemed to damage them in transit over from England, and don't cover body panels in their insurance, so not so lucky. (Colour match was perfect too! Bastid!) Not any extensive damage by any means, but damaged none the less.

Fitted them yesterday (they've to go to paint anyway) and dropped the car down to go into max lowz sc3n3 mode.

Love how it looks but it's in dire need of a chassis notch, so will be raising it up in the mean-time. And if I'm not happy with how it drives post-chassis notch I'll probably just raise it back up and get rid of the wings and not bother with sc3n3 lowz altogether. Want a good all-rounder, and I'm getting to old for this low car trailing about everywhere carry on.

Otherwise, it's going to get the number plate recess smoothed and wings repaired soon, then brakes fitted, intake and stage 2. Also have a set of LED tail lights on the way. Should be done by Dubshed and leave me free to enjoy the car for the better weathered months. Hoping to try some drag / track / hill climb days with it too.

I'm sure there's other stuff I've forgotten to add, but sure.

Cheers for reading.

Picture in the hills with the monza's on, it's a cracking car. Set rear LED's with that set up is all you really need! sometimes less is better.
