Hi ive a mk 4 golf that vag com saying missfire in cylinder 1 and 4 how can u tell what cylinder is what

cylinder one is nearest the drivers side as you look in the engine bay (cam belt end)

Its probably one of the coil packs, check them by unplugging the wiring harness one at a time when the engine is running. When you remove one you should hear the engine noise change, if it doesn't you've found the broken one

Its also worth calling VW. The 1.8t's had a recall to replace all the coil packs. You might be lucky and not have had them done yet :)
