My gti pp manual is now 3 months old (3,000 miles). I have noticed that on the few occasions that I have really opened her up, I've had the below problem.
If I pull away in a real hurry, take it to 5k revs in 1st gear. Then change up to 2nd quickly - there is a odd 'clunk' between the gear shift!
I took this to VW this week and showed the technician. He basically told me that this wasn't anything wrong with the car, but actually me rev'ing too hard and changing gear too aggressively. He said any gti would respond the same way to that treatment!
Has anyone had/heard of this?
I don't drive that way all the time clearly, but I also specifically bought a performance golf because I like to drive it enthusiastically when the time is right!
Thanks in advance

That's normal, it's the dual mass flywheel... you're basically rapidly changing revs, that means the flexible element of the DMFW bangs from one end to the other endstop if you like. Any DMFW car does this to some extent in low gears.

I never got a clunk on my GTI when launching from 1st to 2nd as long as I wasn't riding the clutch the change was pretty smooth to be honest. Could be I just wasn't paying enough attention mind you.

Depends how you change gear, revs, throttle use between gears... also some dmfw do it more than others.

Thanks guys.
Only happens when I really tank it. 4.5k revs in first gear, then a quick gear shift (as fast as I possibly can!).
Imagine trying to do a 0-60 test...
