Title: Aerial lead
Post by: philstar on 05 December 2015, 17:30
Does anybody know what the thin black wire that runs alongside the aerial is for?

Is it simply an earth?

It's on a 16V 1988 by the way.

It's the +12 volt supply to the amplifier mounted in the base of the roof aerial.

Connect it to the (probably blue) amplifier switch-on lead if your radio has one, or just to a circuit which is live when the ignition is on, such as cigarette lighter.

You should find the radio reception is a lot better with it connected.  If not, perhaps the aerial amplifier doesn't work!

As above, it's the 12v feed to the amp. If the reception doesn't change with the lead properly connected then the amp could've died, not uncommon.
