Hi guys, I've got a 2001 1.4 16v and finished replacing the headgasket today and run into some problems. Firstly a list on what I actually did:
Skimmed head, replaced head gasket, cleaned valves and head of carbon build up, seated valves, changed stem seals, changed both timing belts+tensioners, changed drive belt, changed coil pack and HT leads, sealed the cam cover with instant gasket (as nothing was sealing it and the plugs were getting covered in oil) and think that's about it.
All went back together today, I went for a run and the coolant light was on and the temp went sky high. I take it the coolant was just circulating the system as there wasn't any coolant left in the tank so I filled that up and bled it, but the heaters are still cold!
The engine is still misfiring as it did before the whole job and the engine management light is on after I turned the car off and on again.
The tappets are noisey, I take it it's gonna take a while for the oil to circulate to the head? I've only taken it on a 5 mile trip.
Any help would be appreciated! I've got to take it 18 miles tomorrow to a friend who helped with it all to scan it, is it really a good idea to take it that far? I'm not too sure.
Cheers,
Tom

Yep, forgot to mention that, all torqued up too ( 30nm+90Deg+90Deg) and all in the right order!

I would be checking your waterpump then

I did think that but hoping it's not. I'm gonna look at all options first. Wouldn't cause the engine management light to illuminate though surely?
