Title: SOLVED!! Really need help with 1.8t AUM Engine!
Post by: AntMk3GTi on 26 November 2015, 08:55
Hi all,

This is a bit lengthy but I would really appreciate any help.

My car has been running really rough lately.
It all started about a week ago when I was driving down a dual carriage way, I accelerated and as soon as the boost came in, I heard the DV release all boost and the car went into Limp mode.
The ECP and traction control light came on the dash. Even when pressing the ESP button, the light stayed on.

I got it back and scanned it for faults. It had (cant remember the exact numbers sorry):
17579 - P1171 -Angle Sensor 2 G188 implausible signal
Something about throttle body allignment incorrect basic settings.

I took the throttle body off, gave it a good clean, re-fit and then switched the ignition on without starting the engine.
I left it for a minute to let it adapt, then restarted. It seemed fine and no errors.

I went for a drive, and after a few minutes all boost was gone again. I got it back and the 1 fault kept coming up:
Angle Sensor 2 G188 implausible signal. the ECP and Traction control light comes on. I can clear it with VCDS, but it comes back if I drive again and apply just a bit of boost.
I checked the connections to TB, and replaced the TB last night with genuine used part. I still get the 1 fault appear if i let the boost kick in.
At the moment, I can drive -off-boost very carefully and the warnings lights will not appear, but the throttle response is extremely poor.
Things I've done so far:
Replaced throttle body (cleaned it before I fitted).
Checked connections to the TB and sprayed with WD40.
Repaired a split PCV hose.
The N75 valve is only a few years old, genuine brand new from VW.
Boost hoses are silicone and all connected properly.
I un-plugged the MAF and it still idles rough.

I would really appreciate help on this. I'm almost giving up on the car!

...also. to add, I only have un-registered version of VCDS lite.
But I was able to do some live measuring, and the battery voltage was around 14 volts. Is this high enough for the signals at the Sensors?

Have you had a play on here with that fault code?

Thanks for the replies.
Can rule out the battery then.
Regarding VCDS, yeh I've looked the codes up on there. That's what prompted me to buy a new Throttle body.
I scanned again yesterday and got:
18012 Internal Control Module. Output driver IC error P1604.
17967 P1559 (this one didnt give a description).

The first one sounds like ECU??
I cleared the codes and restarted the car, there were then no fault codes found!?

Just to let you all know, I got it back from the garage. It turned out to be the crank position sensor. It's now replaced and running well. Thanks for the replies, hopefully this helps someone out one day if they have the same problem.
