Hi All
The misses would like a MK2/3 Golf GTI but can only drive autos. I am wondering has anyone put an auto box in before?
It looks like an auto box can be picked up for under £100 but I am sure there is more to it than meets the eye :)
Thanks

why not buy a golf driver auto, looks like a GTI ish, may be easier ?
-
How did your lass get a licence if she can only drive auto's?
-
Convert a GTI to a auto...... That's like sticking a pen!s on Cheryl Cole. It would ruin the whole experience.
Just get your misses to do a manual test please.

You can take a test in an auto, but your 'full' license only entitles you to drive an auto until you take another test in a manual.

Easier to get her to take a manual test to be honest.

Sacralige. This mk2 must be saved. The manual helps create the character of cars of this type from that era.
-
Unfortunately the wife can physically only drive an auto as she only has one hand......
-
To be honest she only wants it for the "cool" factor and not the handling/performance. I got all the handling/performance I need in my daily driver :)

How about sticking the GTI bits on a tidy auto Driver?
If she's not bothered about the performance, it would be easier to do.
Would be a lot cheaper too and you could add some nice wheels and a decent stereo with the change?

That's what I'd do.

So ended up withheld a mk3 in the end. As we have three kids under 5 I don't have time to tinker around as much as I'd like
Still happy to have a Golf back in the household.

Don't know about you having no time to tinker but you better brush up on your welding skills if you've got yourself a mk3 😉
