Title: MKVII GTD Purchase
Post by: AGB on 12 November 2015, 22:02
Hi Folks

It's been a while since I've been on the forum, I had a MKVI GTI and I'm now looking at a GTD as a car to get me between my crash pad in London for the week and home in Suffolk - 85 mile return trip.

I'm looking at a GTD with DSG and a few extras - this is my spec: vw.co.uk/s/seay (http://vw.co.uk/s/seay). I know that a 10% discount is available to forum members but I was wondering what sort of prices and finance deals people were getting. I'll probably finance the purchase with a maximum deposit  and do a PX on the Tiguan I have at the moment.

Would appreciate any comments or insights on must haves for spec as well.

Thanks in advance for your help (DM me if you'd prefer)

Alex

Drivethedeal are nearly impossible to beat for a new Golf.

I will second that - you should be offered around 12% off with DdtD.

Agree drive the deal are the cheapest of the brokers at present. Don't discount local dealers though, I stuck a spec on car wow and waited for bites. Then arranged a test drive with a local dealer whose price was close to DtD's, did some haggling and they beat the DtD price on a pre ordered car. Picking it up today to!

Carwow was my starting point, but negotiated a bit more off as well with one of the local dealerships. I had a part-ex, and I don't think DtD take part-exchange as part of their deal.

My local dealer matched dtd exactly and offered a full tank of fuel to buy from them.
I saved £3787.00 of list price. About 12.5 % ish.

I had exactly the same from Liverpool VW for my GTI.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I am on a 16% discount at the moment off list and now need to agree a future trade in value on the other car.

There seems to be a £1,000 floating discount available if you provide evidence of your 'loyalty' to the brand which is more dieselgate reassurance than anything to do with loyalty in my view.

Good luck and welcome back to Golf ownership Alex.
How many Porsches do you currently have?

If you guys only use brokers to get dealers to match the prices, the brokers will go out of business... then we will all pay more.

I'm sure the majority of people who get a quote from a broker will buy through  the broker.
I've recently bought my son a fiesta through DtD.
Unfortunately I had to travel to north Wales to pick it up due to various circumstances and although I enjoyed the drive home, I could have done without taking over 3 hours out of my schedule.
I'm also one of those people who prefer to have a Manchester prefix on their number plate ( strange I know ) and DtD won't guarantee your car will come from localish dealer.
Either way, I just want the cheapest and most convenient way of buying a car and shopping around is all part of that process.

Being In the car trade  (not sales) I would be fairly confident that you can walk into any vw dealership and be very demanding on a discount when buying a vw diesel. Aside from the scandal and a glut of vw gtd floating around on the system, we are approaching month end and close to Christmas. It couldn't be a better time to go in a be hard nosed. I'd be pushing for at least 20%

Thanks Exonian. Good to see a familiar face. I didn't want to sell the GTI but it was the deal I struck with my wife - I got the Cayman R and she got her choice.

The current cars I own are on my signature. The Safari is being commissioned at the moment out of Hamburg through Wicked Sixes. It's an outlaw 911 - a homage to the 1978 East Africa SC. Its uses a 1981 SC chassis with FIA cage, bespoke Ohlins dampers, 964 3.6, custom drive ratio/single mass flywheel on a 915 clutch/trans but might change for G50.

What I save on the GTD will go into the Safari.

20% is massively optimistic - I doubt anyone that didn't work for a VW dealership has ever got 20% off a new car not pre-registered, scandal or no scandal. Plenty of VW dealers won't even have 20% margin in a new car if their customer satisfaction rating isn't top notch and they don't have the upper tiers of volume discount. You might be lucky enough to get 15% on a car in stock or unallocated to a specific buyer on the national system, but any more than that is massively unlikely.

Not sure about 20% unless it's already been built and not a factory order.
I'm getting a petrol so I can't chuck the emissions scandal in their faces quite so easily

New Member here,

I have recently ( yesterday ) ordered a New GTI through drivethedeal. Got 13 % discount plus £1,250 Depsoit contribution and an additional £1,000 discount on teh basis my son has a polo( just need to priovide a copy of the v5 )

All in all a 3 door dsg GTI in white came in at £22,895 a saving of just under 6k. This is far better than my local dealer ot inded a dealer on carwow was able to offer.

It depends on the volumes. Having dealt  with drivethedeal this morning and based on the individual I spoke to, I'd be delighted to give the dealer the business if they matched the price.

If you don't mind me asking, What was the issue with drivethedeal? They knew there stuff when i spoke to them, even called back to say i could have an additional £1,000 discount as my son had a polo. This was after i placed the order.

The guy rang me up, I told him that I'd had a better price and he then flat out told me it was impossible in a pretty aggressive manner that suggested I was full of it. He didn't query whether I was an existing Volkswagen customer so if they knew their stuff, they could have worked out pretty quickly where the £1,000 was coming from. Surely you'd qualify that as well?

I rang back later and confirmed that they could better the price he quoted factoring in the £1,000. Going to do my best to ensure that the dealer gets my business as I much prefer his attitude.

I sure did; the local dealer I bought from was one of those who quoted through Carwow. I think it was the £20 Amazon voucher that swung it in the end though

The local dealer I ordered from quoted on carwow but matched the DtD price when I rang up and spoke to them.
Another local dealer who quoted on carwow wouldn't match it.

Sounds very much like my experiences. To be fair would have been more than happy to use DtD, but wanted another test drive and the car wow dealer seemed ideal and local, when he matched and then bettered the DtD price on a car he had on order I was more than happy to use him to top it off he was a top bloke. Actually went into another more local dealer first to get a drive in a second hander they hand on show and the salesman there was an arse, my wife actually used the phrase "even if it costs more don't give any commission to him". So the salesman has a massive part to play, not just on price but on the experience as well. It's a buyers market in some way, so use it and get a deal you are happy with at a local dealer or through a broker.

Finally got the car sorted out. Picking it up next Saturday.

I bought an ex-stock GTD with 6 miles on the clock.

Salesman was entirely incompetent and didn't know how to sell or what the car had as spec.

I compromised on the spec I wanted - lost DCC, 90% rear tints, deep black instead of carbon grey and have a sun roof and winter pack. I can see me playing the game of turning up the heat in the passenger seat to annoy my wife with that but some heated washer jets on top of it is neither here nor there. Never owned a car with a sun roof and never cared to spec it but it might be pleasant in summer on occasion. Ended up with £5k off list in the end and have not had to wait an eternity for the car.

Dealer didn't expect me to buy a car there and then and was cautious about taking me out for too long a test drive as the car was new. :undecided:

Thanks for input on the purchase everyone, much appreciated.
