Title: alternator/work shop on dash

as above came on, the wife said steering went stiff then went ok again then warning went off while she was driving, any ideas,
its a golf mk4 gti turbo 180bhp 2003

Belt tensioner probably about to fail, or another bit that is driven by ribbed belt.
