Title: rocker and half moon gasket

Morning all....
 after spending many hours reading i have come to the conclusion my 1.8t is loosing oil from the rocker gasket but reading on here about a half moon gasket...
now looking at them it says chain tensioner ???? i didnt think i had a chain??? anyway can you help?????
1,if i change the rocker gasket should i do the half moon?
2,has a AUM got a half moon?
3, how hard of a job is it to change both?

Aum has a chain between the cams. The half moon is under the chain tensioner. If you have an oil leak at the gearbox side of the head/rocker cover it is almost certainly from around the tensioner gasket. Its not a difficult job, Just takes a bit of time and confidence. There's kits on eBay with the 2 gaskets and necessary tool, however I'd recommend you get genuine gasket and half moon from vw and find a cheap tool and then a how to guide online. Dont forget a drop of blue gasket seal where required.

Reminded me you should really replace the valve cover gaskets while you are in there.
