Title: First fault
Post by: Paul70 on 31 October 2015, 15:06
Hi all

My car's info system has just started playing and was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem. It is intermittent.

It started with the touch screen freezing and then it goes into a frenzied beeping and randomly picks radio stations - this happens every 2 to 3 drives. Ignition has to be switched off to clear the screen freeze. Manual buttons on the outside are not affected, it's just the touch screen but on all options radio, nav etc.

Discover navigation system. Car is nearly 2 years old

Cheers Paul

I had the unit in the glovebox replaced a few weeks ago due to crackling through the speakers. Mine is roughly the same age. The dealer knew the cause straight away. They said they had a brand new passat with the same problem

I had the same symptoms on my first mk7 Gti,  (July 13 Irish car).   Screen would freeze and then break into Morse code, would occasionally ring random phone numbers if left in phone mode over night.
I made lots of videos after being initially fobbed off by VW Ireland,   eventually after solicitor getting involved my screen and glove box control unit were replaced.  I did notice that it usually occurs when temperatures were below 6 degrees at night

When I got in  car to drive home ,this evening ,the radio played but the screen was completely black. Tried to change screen to sat nav but no go. Tried on/off button but still a blank screen. Got home and rang local dealer and seemingly a common fault and no software update for it yet. Seemingly the VW software engineers are really busy on a very large problem at the moment. Now let's try to guess what.  Just went back to car unlocked it and system now works fine again.Weird.

Thanks lads for the replies. Every since I wrote the post it's been fine. Great tip to video the problem as I want to minimise trips to the dealer.

VW software engineers LOL

Nothing in that infotainment unit is written by VW, its all written by the sub contractor that builds and supplies them.

My MBI was replaced under warranty after a nav issue @ a cost of £5,000   If it was me I would be going to see my dealer and get it sorted before the warranty expires.  Take some pics as proof
