Title: Noob with a Bargain Mk4 Tdi
Post by: Justsomebloke on 30 October 2015, 10:24
Hi All, Firstly Cheers for the Resource as I've been reading untold in the last couple of days & have learnt plenty.
Broke 2 Personal Bests this week, 1 Buying the best car for the cheapest money & 2 selling my old car in less than 10 minutes.
The car I've bought brings me here & any other resource for Mk4s as I'm like a sponge when I get summit new.
So...
2000 Mk4 Golf GT TDi 110 5 speed in Green Showing 131k with 11 Months MOT for the bargaintastic price of a mere 350 quid.
Wanted one for ages & plan on keeping it & as it was so cheap it came with no paperwork apart from V5c & MOT's so I'm throwing a few quid at it to get it spot on.
It came with New front pads fitted & a couple of bushes sorted for the MOT in Sep. Brakes are bang on & it seems to track as it should.
I drove it an hour on the way home & it wa showing 50+mpg & up to silly figures, It pulls as it should & th Temp gauge  was as it should dependant on driving style.
The motor really does drive great & Unbelievably good for what I paid for the car.

To Do & done list
Complete clean of the engine & Bay with solvent, Looks excellent now & future work won't mean getting covered in thick black diesel/oil/crap.
2 new tyres on the front & the best 2 to the rear - Done.
Oil & Filter change with decent PD oil - Sunday.
Fuel Filter - Sunday.
Air & Pollen filters -Sunday.
Cambelt  kit & Metal Water pump - Tuesday.
Clean EGR Valve & All pipes inside & check all fasteners & rubber - Sunday.
And a few more jobs that I've forgotten I reckon

All in All I'll end up with my lovely Golf GT Tdi fully sorted for around 800 quid. I'll know myself All the work has been done properly. Proper oil/cambelt kit/metal wp/filters/pipes cleaned out/egr etc etc etc
I'm more than happy, I've wanted one for ages but spend to much on my motorbike/s having this one fully sorted for 800 quid means untold to me as my long runs are down to see my Daughter & Grandkids, It's a 250 mile round trip door to door & my Golf will do it for less than 5 gallons which means I can go more often & have more spare cash tuther end for treats etc.
Happy days.

TLDR - Noob buys cheap TDi & is Chuffed to bits - The End.

No pics yet but obviously for that money she's far from perfect.
Lacquer has come off the bonnet bad, smallish dent on top of the near side wing & a scrape that's taken some paint off over rear arch, odd blue passenger wing mirror & in need of a good T-cut & polish everywhere else. She is Solid though, No rust anywhere. I'm thinking pick a 2nd hand bonnett up in the same colour & take care of the rest myself. Overall she'll look sound when I'm done.
As far as mods go I live in Hinkley so it would be rude not to go see R-Tech  Obviously need to do all of the above first & more & a bit of testing then once I'm satisfied it'll take it I'll be up there for a remap as from what I've read the 110 gets damn good results.

Oil & Filter done this morning & a cleaning of the Intercooler, I can't think of an easier car to do an Oil & Filter change on. She's on Full Synthetic PD now, All Filters are new & all I've got to do is the Cambelt kit & Metal water pump which is being done Tuesday then I can just enjoy the motor.
