yeah defo has to plastic primer, it flex's with the plastic when it gets hot and cold, where as the normal stuff doesnt so in the end it will crack and start to flake off like joe says!

Door Cards???????

Just take the blanking plate off the inside of the door and do it that way. But be careful as the little plastic bits have a tendency to break off.

i think it depends if its early or late style doors, Early ones id imagen would be the same as a Mk1, The late style doors are easy, just the way Slick described.
