Title: looking to buy mk6 Gti
Post by: FBASH1R on 15 October 2015, 12:41
Hi guys I'm new to this forum..seen some really nice cars on here and I'm looking to upload pics of mine once I can find the right one..I'm looking for a mk6 Gti...needs to be 5dr and mileage up to 60k..I'm not too bothered about colour and optional extras...don't mind manual or dsg..I have a budget of 11k I can stretch the budget slightly if I can get the right one..

Thanks

That budget should be fine but i think you'll be looking at ones with 60k 09 & 10 plates

I personally think options are important, thats why it took me over a year to find a car but it also helps during resale. manual gti over a dsg I think even though im a dsg owner and a fan.

Yeh options are nice but for that budget might be difficult. Though after you buy a car you don't want to wish you spent a little bit more for options

Also some 09 cars only had the 17inch monzas. 18inch were optional extra?

Some nice options to have.::
Leather
Heated seats
Xenons
Folding mirrors
Headlight washers

about the timing tensioner if i was to buy one and it didnt make that crunch noise on ignition...is there a high chance it could get ruined at anytime? Or if i buy one with it replaced is there a chance it could go again? and reguarding options i understand about resale value..id like to have certain options but if they dont have it it wouldnt bother me as ill be excited to own one..and at the moment i think im more desperate as i have no car to drive :'( i been looking everywhere and i mean EVERYWHERE for one..some people want crazy prices for thier gtis without any options :/ 09's are still strong money and im just abit worries about this timing tensioner going...i will increase my budget and maybe get a 10 plate.. MAX i want to pay is 12k

From what I understand you need an 11-plate or newer to have the revised tensioner fitted. It wouldn't put me off buying an 09 or 10plate car, just look for one thats had the updated tensioner fitted, or budget to get it updated to the latest spec (a few £hundred at a good independant garage, but much cheaper than a possible engine failure).

As always, buy on condition rather than mileage etc. Are there any options you consider a must?

Also, you can now check car's MOT history with just the reg no at https://mot-history.net (https://mot-history.net) obviously looking for any fails/recurring advisories etc.

the engines sound rattly on start up, which is pretty common for the engine (the manual even states this). Once your postcount reaches 10 we can discuss via pm. I had my 09 plate timing chain changed under warranty by vw (which is covered by a further years warranty).

yh thats what i was thinking id see if the tensioner has been updated if not that will be number one on the priority list when i buy...Ive seen a gti which has that adaptive chassis control? Whats that like? sounds like a good option to have but i doubt ill get one in the budget.

I have adaptive chassis control on mine. Its a nice option to have and gives three suspension modes; 'Comfort' 'Normal' and 'Sport'. I tend to have mine set on comfort as i do a lot of motorway driving, but do cycle through the modes when on A and B roads.

Having said that I've driven a GTI without it and it seemed a great compromise for all situations to be honest. Not sure what ride is like on 19" wheels but on the more standard 18" and 17" I would consider it a bonus if the car has it, but not a necessary option at all.
