Title: Trim Removal
Post by: Juicetin on 11 October 2015, 18:08
Hi folks, determined to get to the bottom of a rattle on the dash, dealers have failed to find it after 4 visits. I think i have traced it to the carbon look strip above the glovebox, does anyone know how to remove it? On my mk5 it just simply unclipped but ive tried that and it wont budge. I have a trim removal tool.
Thanks.

evening,

whilst i dont know how to remove the trim, it might also be worth removing the glovebox and investigating if there's anything loose behind the dash.

Its in the manual how to do so.

Cant be sure but it certainly sounds like its from the A pillar, air vent or trim, whats odd is that thay all feel solid with no obvious play in them. So yes i will check out the soundaktor too thanks.

Juicetin: This is how VW says to remove the trim

No need to use the special VW trim tool - just get hold of a plastic tool that's used for IPAD/ mobile phone repairs

Thanks for that, it looks like the trim just unclips then. Blimey i tried that today and it wouldn't budge.

Juicetin: OK, then that suggests that the rattle isn't coming from the trim.

As an alternative suggestion, why not remove the glove-box door (it's much easier to remove) and then search behind the trim panel for a loose component. Not sure if you have removed the glove box door before, but I wrote up a procedure (complete with pics) of how to do this in the link below (it's part of my instructions for altering the fuse function for the ciggy socket). Be careful to align the "slider" when re-installing
