Hi All,
Rear brakes have gone massive scretching noise. metal on metal from rear. disks and pads need doing. Wasnt aware they were down until this. stil plenty meet on the pad but the inner hasnt obviously been checked and now gone. The inner pad has worn down so much. Going to get them done first thing in the morning. Anyone have any ideas on price so i dont get ripped off by vdub? :undecided: :undecided: :undecided: :undecided:

About £150-£200 from an independent> Don't go to a dealership for brakes.

You might have a sticky caliper as the pads should wear evenly

ah really? my technical know how isnt the best! Had VW assist out there and rac guy came out. I thought was something way more serious than just the pads going.. he said it was the inner pad that had gone. now meaning the whole disk and pad needs replacing should both pads be even?

Yeah they should I'm afraid
I had to replace BOTH the rear calipers on my A3 last year at just over 72,000 miles
Rear calipers sticking seem to be a VAG Achilles heel as they've had the problem since the MK2!!!

I went with refurbed calipers which were £75 each: genuine Audi were £150!! Fitted by my local garage for £40

I think I've got a similar problem, sometimes once the car is parked and I shut the door and screeching sound comes from the rear end, whats the best way to find out whats wrong?

well a bit of a update on the situation. Took it straight to the dealers today. Turns out something muck etc has got in between the inner pad and from what i can gather totally knackd it!! (not that i needed them to tell me that one) dont know whether it ripped the pad off or just worn it down so much. The outer pad was fine but the inner was shot. so needed new discs and pads together both sides.
Needed new pads/discs. Car was only in for a service few weeks back so was rather annoyed nothing had been picked up then! They offered £250 to start with then brought down to £150. Didn't really think i was going to get it any cheaper and they needed doing today! Bit of a unfortunate situation but had to pay and go with it.
