Title: Standard boost pressures? Power delivery / turbo issue
Post by: mrred32 on 11 October 2015, 08:39
Hi guys, having a little issue with power delivery/accelaration in the GTI (DSG) and wondered if someone could advise.

When cruising everything appears fine however when I boot it the Rev needle begins to rise, then skips and appears to drop (not changing gear). It also happened when in manual and I go down to 3rd - 1200 revs and then boot it. Also there is a noticeable lack of power (accelaration and power delivery feels similar to my old N/A clio)

Thinking maybe turbo related but as my first turbo charged car not really sure what to look for. Tried checking the general area for oil/leaks and can't really hear a whistling noise (tell tell sign of pressure leak I think?).

When hooking up to torque on my phone using obd I find when cruising at 40 in 5th the boost gauge is between 19-27 in/Hg (negative) and when booting it it rises to 17psi and drops very suddenly. Is this normal? I've seen on another forum that it should generally be peaking at 12psi. I'm getting a bit nit picky with issues now as Ive only 1 month left on my manufacturers warranty lol. Cheers in advance.

Any thoughts? Looks like I'll have to suck it up and pay for the diagnostic at VW :(

Sorry I've not idea about this but couldn't you take it to a non-dealer to run diag ?

At least that might be cheaper.

If its still under warranty then you shouldn't have to pay for the diagnostic if the problem is indeed covered under warranty

Really? I have like 1 month warranty left but I thought that regardless of whether the component is covered under warranty the standard diagnostic (in this case £99 iirc) would be chargeable

Not really mechanical person but have just upgraded my diverter valve as my car has been re-mapped and it was recommended.

The standard part is ok but apparently it can fail quite easily. Might be worth checking.

I've never paid for a dignostic for a warranty issue

Why not ask the question??? Worse case you are £99 worse off BUT you could have work done which costs hundreds so in effect saving you money. Especially if it goes pop soon after your warranty expires.........

Got it booked in, thanks for the advice. £99 for potentially a lot of work seems pretty worth it.

Mmm I've heard about issues with the diverter valve, I might look into the symptoms of a failed valve as it might be what I am experiencing. Cheers.

if you had 1 month left on warrenty you shouldnt be paying a penny for them to be looking at it i wouldnt have thought. I certainly wouldnt be paying a penny!  Should took the car in explained the problem. Said dont give s*** what you need doing diagnostics etc its under warranty you sort it, theres the keys. Dealers are a joke!

I did exactly that! Went into VW, they refitted the air intake hoses, checked with diagnostic, recharged the Aircon and got it back to me with no charge :).

I'm pretty chuffed with that, a clean bill of health now ready for my MOT and service next month. Just need to start looking at the extended warranty costs now. Cheers for the advice guys.

They said that there was something wrong with the air intake? They took it all apart and checked it or something. They mentioned air pressure. I'll be honest I'm not quite sure and they did say that it wasn't too serious but it seems ok now.
