ooo good point, i just assumed you meant the actual hood!
-

you can't buy them anymore from new... trust me I've tried... I've managed to get them from ebay though from £50-90 - there is one on ebay at the moment - (see below link) if you want to win it - bid last 5 minutes don't pay anymore than £90 as they are just not worth anymore...

I'll have a chat with a few mates of mine on monday who strip VW's and see if they have one spare kicking around they want to sell to me.. (I'll get it cheaper then and I'll pass it onto you for whatever I get it for - properly be £50.00 if I know them)
What model VW golf cab do you have?
-
what are they made of? vinyl? if so i'd be able to make one if i had a pattern. vinyl costs feck all.
-
i didnt realise you cant buy them anymore..that would be why i couldnt find any
i have a MK1
thankyou

Joe - if emerald wants a vinyl one - you can use my hood cover for the pattern mate. (side business I think..  )
No prob - see what the boys say on monday.
-
i'd keep an eye on that ebay one if i were you but if anyone has an old one they'd like me to use as a pattern i'm sure i could knock a few out!
-
ha ha duh, yeah si that would be coolio
-
thanks guys

I've got a spare cream one kicking about that I wont be using. It needs a bit of a clean up though.
They did do them in slightly different styles though as the older ones had less press studs than the newer ones.  gtijoe could probably make one up a lot cheaper than this but I got one made up for £190. :undecided:
If you need to do a search on ebay or wherever then search for tonneau cover, apologies if you already know this.
-
what do the newer ones have instead of press studs? if no-one wants the cream one i might have it to use as a pattern.......

No our kid, they both had press studs, but the newer ones had an extra bit of material and press studs that go onto the black side bits on either side of back seats, too hard to explain, I'd need to show you mine (oo err ! )

joe, how much you thinking of making them for?
gibby, is your cream cover a new or older one?
-

It's an older one.
They also have some plastic caps in them that are used to protect the hood against the metal rods of the roof when its down but I've only got one of them and they are discontinued because I tried to get one.

for you? i'm sure we could come to some arrangement.....now about those shiney trousers! :P
but seriously though i cant see them working out too expensive. they look fairly simple and i can get vinyl cheap enough so its just a matter of me and my sewing machine!
-
you want to make a cover out of my trousers?
sounds funny...you and a sewing machine, you look like you should be in a boy band, not stitching things like a woman
-
ha ha hey i'm in touch with my feminine side!! its an endearing quality!! ;)
me in a boy band?! are you sure you know what i look like?!.........
-
Calm down joe, calm down
Emerald, if you want I could always send you my cream one without any cash changing hands so you can see what it's like, and if you want to keep it then cool and if not then just send it back and the most we'll both be out of pocket is the cost of postage. Let me know.

Sounds like a plan guys - but also remember cream hoods can be dyed to black as well... I did that to one of mine once.. and it come out really well - took a few days to dye it though...
Whats with the trousers comments? I must of missed something at sometime..?!
-
gibby, that sounds like an excellent plan, how much would you want for it?
madone, what did you use to dye yours?
-
I used a leather dye from a friend who was a gun dealer - (he did western weekends  - so created leather items and dyed them..) I'll give him a bell later today and ask him for the details...
FYI: names Simon.
-
